Drop Names Problem - Advice really Appreciated

Hi All,
I have recently bought two dropped domains from snapnames, one of them I can get limited control over - BUT the other one is registered at - bulkregister.com - and I cannot get any control (webforwarding)over it unless I pay them more money !! their email reply is as follows -

You currently have a Limited Membership that does not allow the features your are looking to use. You can easily upgrade your membership for $29 which gives you complete access to all domain management tools and features along with a wholesale pricing for domains.

Sounds like a right rip off to me !!

I paid over the usual registration fee for a domain I can't even use !!!!

Is this legal ?? - I would really really appreciate any advice you guys could offer me.

The other thing thats confusing me is that it seems as though my usual register can't transfer in the domain for 2 months (at a additional cost) and I was wondering if I have to pay bulkregister to transfer out aswell ???

HELP ! This is sounding expensive an I am unemployed.

Legality differs from country to country. But snapnames and bulkregister are
US-based and thus subject to US laws.

Incidentally there's a US e-signature law that makes clicking the checkbox
beside the "I have read the Service Agreement and agree to its terms" as
legal as signing a written contract.

Apparently bulkregister successfully regged the name on behalf of snapnames.
Ideally the more registrars a backorder service uses, the more chances it has
of getting the desired name.

Since it's a new registration, the 60-day transfer rule still applies. You can
transfer the domain 60 days after its initial registration.

Unfortunately you'll have to deal with bulkregister and, worse comes to worse,
comply with what they ask as they're within their rights to do as they see fit.

But more importantly, get a job fast. If the domains are registered to you, at
least no one else can touch them.

Thanks for your input Dave - I would of thought that if I buy a domain name then I should have full control over it , after all what use is a domain name you can't use ?

I did not tick any boxes agreeing to terms of Bulkregister, but I guess I don't have a choice but to pay them ! sounds totaly wrong to me.

Has anyone else experience this while purchasing drop names ?

I have yet to catch a drop at SnapNames that was handled by a registrar that offers a full selection of domain management tools for free. Usually you are limited to editing your name servers, locking the domain, and changing your password. If you want domain forwarding, as you have discovered, it is an additional cost.

I wait 60 days and then transfer to DomainSite for $6.99.

A few registrars don't offer free forwarding. However, there are lots of place to get DNS control for less than $29. As far as I know, all registrars allow you to change the DNS server to one that isn't theirs at no charge. By doing so you can take advantage of DNS elsewhere for free or at least less cost.

If you don't have a hosting service and just want forwarding, try zoneedit.com. They allow 5 domains for FREE. You can buy full DNS service there at $50/year for 10 domains or $100/yr. for 25 names. Granitecanyon.com offers free DNS, but no forwarding. another service apparently does offer forwarding at DHS.org.

I'd advise to wait the 60 days and transfer out to another registrar anyway though.
