Hi,

ok don't laugh but since being away from domains for a while i have forgotten this:

Say whois for a name says PENDING DELETE and "Updated Date" the 20th.

When will the domain drop then ?

On the 25th or the 26th ?

Would appreciate an exact answer, not like "add 6 days to the update date" but rather an exact date as i don't remember if the "updated date" counts as first day of the 6 days or not.

Second question:

Is the drop time still 2 PM EST ?

Thanks !

26th I believe.
Its 2am, I'm pretty sure. Because I stay up late every night to get em :) and I do.

Rocca,

2AM EST is the time that all dropped domains become re-registerable?

Please confirm.

Thanks

Got any idea to what time and date that would work out to for the east coast of Australia, would I have to get up early rather than stay up late to catch domains that drop? and can you still get good domains without using name drop auctions etc.

I did a bit of research myself and found this blog about the Chief Software Strategist at Enom. Here is an extract of quote by Christopher Ambler...

“In a nutshell, at 2pm Eastern time (11am my time), Verisign starts changing the status of the list of pending-delete names for that day from pending-delete to available. They do this over the course of an hour or so - a little more or a little less depending on how many names are dropping that day. When this happens, the drop-catching software run by Club Drop or Pool or Snapnames (or whomever) starts pounding Verisign with requests for the name.”

Ambler said, “The real magic comes in flooding VeriSign with those commands absolutely as fast as you can and, of course, in having as many registrars as possible doing it on your behalf. Verisign limits the number of connections and the amount of bandwidth each registrar gets, so there are a finite number of commands you can bring to bear during the drop. Each registrar that you have working for you increases the number of commands you can send, increasing your chances of getting the domain.”

I hope this sheds a bit of daylight on the whole subject for those in USA, but I am still not shure of what time it would work out to on the east coast of Australia ?

Here is a bit more info that I found in another blog, seems a bit hard to pinpoint an exact time though !

When a domain enters its redemption period, it’s a good bet the owner has decided not to renew.

Finally, after the redemption period, the domain’s status will change to “locked” as it enters the deletion phase. The deletion phase is 5 days long, and on the last day between 11am and 2pm Pacific time, the name will officially drop from the ICANN database and will be available for registration by anybody.

The entire process ends exactly 75 days after the listed expiration date.

Hmmm still a bit confused about domain drop times, do I have to use a back order to have any success?

So what time does it convert to in GMT?

The drop time is common for all known TLDs (info,biz..) or only for Verisign (com,....)
