Do you know if GOOGLE and others partners, will do a planetary marketing to boost the DOT MOBI websites ?
As soon as that marketing will be on TV, newspaper, the DOT MOBI websites will explode.
Please comment.

I think it the mainstream marketing won't take place until at least 6-12 months (at least), you may see some ads and stuff before that. But I dont think it would be smart for them to heavily advertise it yet when most of the .mobi's are still in the mommy's tummy. And the top ones are waiting to be adopted.

For example type in any common word now and the site is most likley "not their." with exception to some trademarked names for example "bmw.mobi" and flowers.mobi just got parked or something I think.

Its not bad news, but defintily give it time before mainsteam advertising takes place.

-just my oppinon right now

when was the last verisign .com marketing push you've seen? it's up to the developers, not the registry (although this would help the cause)

We, the people, will execute the global reach.

Look, during the next 2 years I believe we are going to witness several incredible events with respect to the .mobi extension!

Sparks will illuminate.

5800 premium .mobi brands will be allocated via TRAFFIC auctions, RFP, etc. Remember how much free press the $200,000 sale of Flowers.mobi captured in the USA Today, CNN, FOX etc?

CEO's, entertainers, entrepreneurs, moguls & journalists will converge and generate continual electrifying .mobi buzz.

Hypothetically, imagine Nokia vs. Samsung vs. Richard Branson in a bidding war for CellPhones.mobi in 2007, do I hear $1 million, 2 million, 3 million? or the NBA vs. Mark Cuban for Basketball.mobi or PartyPoker vs Harrahs for Poker.mobi......you can visualize various scenarios commanding tremendous media attention!

In 07 & 08 endusers will develop & promote their brands on the Mobile Web -- BMW.mobi, BusinessWeek.mobi, Weather.mobi, Ringtones.mobi, MobileNews.mobi (Microsoft), MobileTvPhone.mobi (Samsung), and thousands more!

Seize this opportunity. Develop! Promote! Have Fun!

Well said Michael, speaking of the 5,800 names. When is the next auction for the next premium name release or if anyone else knows? It will be interesting.

I look at those numbers, added to the launch/landrush numbers, my first thoughts...

- The folks behind mTLD are going to be wealthy, regardless of how well .Mobi does.

- With the success of the landrush, the unprecedented early registration numbers, and these high priced "premium" domains, I believe there should be no excuse for lack of promotion, like we've seen in other new extensions the past few years (.info, .biz, .us). If they stand behind their words, and their vision, I believe we should start seeing .Mobi promoted widely across printed and digital media by late 2007 early 2008.

I am looking for more .mobi in ads ... hopefully in the next 12 months we'll see some major players with TV ads showing their new .mobi's

I'm seeing a lot of new mobile websites spring up with mobile.[website].com addresses, where is their .mobi's?! Come on MTV!

It certainly won't do much good to promote this extension until there it something for the consumer to see. I believe promotion will happen when several of the "big boys" have .mobi sites that consumers WANT to see on their cell phones. They will need to be something that attracts attention when folks are NOT near their PC. They will need to be sites that work on the RAZR and Chocolate (and other small screen sizes) that the masses are using today. They will also need to be sites that are NOT misleading to the consumer, i.e., PPC sites that lead to "full-size" PC sites only.

The major search engines will need to differentiate results specific to the device being used by the searcher. I.E., Google/Yahoo will need to serve results that will work on the cell phone vs. on the PC. The new mobi-specific search sites (dir.mobi, boing.mobi) will help in this area;

There will also need to be publicity about .mobi "pulling the plug" on sites that do not conform to development standards. Then the public will know to trust their bandwidth charges to places that will provide true value to THEM and not just to domain speculators.

Then .mobi can and will grow in viral proportions.

Just my 2-cents, 'cause that's all I have left after Christmas shopping...
:hehe:

SirSpider,

I do not know much about the subject of mobile bandwith.

Will bandwith always be the limiting factor with mobile viewing even after
technology has provided easy viewing of any TLD via fold out screens?

Will unlimited cheap bandwith emerge around the same time as foldout screens?

"Limited bandwith could make or break mobi." What's your thoughts?

Thanks!
.

that is why .mobi exists is due to limited bandwidth its standards allow for easier, and cheaper viewing due to bandwidth constraints and screen constraints

I understand the present issues of bandwith & mobi.
I wish to hear the future issues of mobile bandwith.

Cheap Bandwith = Dead MobiTLD?
Greedy Providers = Long Live Mobi?

there will always be standards due to the size of the screens that .coms will have an issue addressing imho. the .com sites will always be a mess on a small screen due to the limitations and the information that the consumer will want will need to be condensed and accessed quickly therefore companies will want and need a condensed version of there .com sites, one for the mobile viewing public and the other for the desktop viewing public. IMO

Foldout screens will be an interesting development -- and probably not that far off into the future. However, they defeat one of the main advantages of the cell phones most of us use today. The small size lends itself to one-hand operation. is that important? Sure.

Just think how convenient it is to dial or to text someone while walking through the mall. You do that with ONE HAND. That is why (I believe) the dot-mobi standards are important. Just try using a PDA with stylus input-with only one hand. In fact, try it while walking...

So unfurling a flat screen might be cool and useful, but small, one-hand-operating mobile devices may always be among the most popular.

On the other note... I can give no prediction on when mobile bandwidth will increase or when the subscription cost will come down---other than it WILL happen.
:)
