I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Anyone else notice these "bad penny" .CA domains that keep getting selected and are then tossed back?

For example, GOODFELLAS.CA was selected 4th on July 18, and now suddenly it's back in the TBR list. I once asked the CIRA about this phenomenon, and while they couldn't give me an exact reason why the registrar tossed it back, they surmised it could be due to non-payment, traffic taste-testing, SEO blacklisting, etc.

I think GRAD.CA popped on and off the TBR list 4-5 times in a year before it disappeared for good.

when do .ca expired names end up on expireddomains.net? every 7 days? at which hour? like 2pm EST?

You can't make this stuff up.

GOODFELLAS.CA goes in 4th place a few weeks ago, then is dropped back, and is selected in 3rd place today.

Oh we're movin' on up...

Not specific to that site, but the TBR list is finalized on Monday, then the run itself is on Wednesday at 2PM EST, so I would definitely think sometime on Monday and you will want to inquire with the site as to the specific hour.

also liked seeing "GEO's" being bought...

Yeah, it was a tough week for single-words and I didn't see one that I would have bought. After that big rush in early-2018, the premium word supply has certainly dried up.

And as for the LLL domains, there were also 5 that went unselected, so it looks like the mania is cooling down a bit. If there was even in iota of end-user sales data backing up this recent spike in low-end LLL TBR selections, I wouldn't say a word, but the resale market looks totally dead for all but the most premium ones, and even then it's not hot....

I wonder if these 3L buyers are actively purchasing mid/high quality LLLs on secondary markets as well, or if it's all concentrated on the TBR.

From what I'm seeing, it seems to be concentrated solely on the TBR as a speculative tactic.

I am not seeing any increase in LLL end user sales, and if anything, the market has dropped lately. There used to be the odd LLL.ca hit the major sales charts, but these are getting fewer and farther between. And when they do hit, it's usually an ultra-premium.

You grabbed it? It was a pretty good week for Crypto on the TBR, although our top two picks went pretty early.

yes i just regged it
honestly i dunno so much about expired markets and drops..just never got round to it much in domaining yet..so i just use expireddomains.net now and then to get some stuff... i was hoping to grab btcbank..ca there..but i dont think it ever made it there...

at full price namesilo 9$ regs and no promos... i try to take it real easy with .ca regs..still not the easiest to sell imo

but 'market' keyword is about as good as it gets for crypto...

…at full price…
If you do a search or whois on cira.ca, current promos are displayed if the name is available.

Just treat .CA like it's the top 10% of the .COM market (i.e. the other 90% won't sell) and you'll be fine.

Nope, our Top Picks for Crypto were BTCBank.ca and BitcoinTrust.ca and they both went pretty early, but BlockchainStartups.ca, CoinHQ.ca, MiningCrypto.ca, SnapCoin.ca, and TokenMarket.ca made it through.

Is it just small number statistics, or maybe more sales on venues not NameBio reported, but it seems .ca is a bit slower this year so far.

So far in 2018 there are 21 NameBio listed .ca sales totalling $164.3k.
In (all of) 2017 it was 89 sales totalling $464.6k

Or maybe it was just that 2017 was a good year?

If you take the average of the last 5 years there are 58 sales per year and $500k per year.

What do people think?

What do people think?

I think at least part of it has to do with how crazy the TBR list was through the first half of 2018.

A couple of longtime domainers passed away, and their holdings slowly expired and flowed onto the TBR which allowed investors, web developers and and companies to grab a lot of premium names cheap - this almost certainly lowered demand on the resale market.

On that note, regardless of real or perceived value, it's a good idea to have arrangements in place for someone to look after your investment… if you can't.

I’m curious if one of those domainers owned oil.ca? It’s been in redemption for a bit.

It looks like that is a MyID registered domain, which means it may never see the light of day.

It is a good one to watch as it will clearly show what's going on.

If I recall, it went for around $25,000 about 8 years ago. I was in auction for it.... I tapped out at $24,999. lol

If it drops, it could get more this time around. We could all dump our piggy banks and go for it together. Then turn around and sell it to Shell for mid 6 figures. :P
