Hey nP members,

we all know that the TLD space has changed completely.

While we can see many creative and great domains made from new TLDs we can see much more really weird and pointless .combinations - means weird and pointless domain name combinations in the .com extension - it often just looks like that 'it must be a .com in every case - no matter how pointless the name combination itself is'.

There are now so many opportunities to 'label' meaningful domain names with a new TLD - I personally recommend .top for the optimum / best 'label' - don't think .com is the future.

DON'T GET LOST IN WEIRD .comBINATIONS!

Do you agree?
Or not?
What is your opinion?

All the best with your invest,

.top is garbage and everybody knows it...

Just one example:

mom.top sold for $895

mom.com is worth how much: XXX,XXX - X,XXX,XXX ?

It is no comparison.

It is easier to register a better dictionary word .top... that's because nobody wants them... who wants the domain: i don't know. let's say... fire.top? Nobody... Fire.com... everybody!!!

Stick to .com, .net, .org and your cctld. Every other gTLD is a waste of time. You may get lucky with a sale, but honestly with so many gTLDs if a company is going to market a new gTLD, they will most likely register whatever is available and not buy your crap.

I will now visit estibot.com to check the value of a .com domain, do a search on google.com, check my mails on gmail.com and then come back to namepros.com to discuss how .com will be replaced by .top

Another interesting fact:

Of you visit namestat.org and check the page of .XYZ the applicant is listed as:

XYZ.COM LLC

I already sold 6 .PROs for high $xxx per domain in average.
Also had a few .info sales up to $2K.

Do you really believe that such threads have any impact on the enduser behaviour/demand???
Of course, at least in the long run.
Otherwise I wouldn't create threads like this one.

.top is cheap toilet paper as are many other new strings.

If you use an extension like .top you tell the public that you would like to be on top but can't afford a good domain.

How this should help your business is beyond me.
I respect your view but it's complete nonsense in my opinion.

If you use .top you simply show the public that you choose the 'the best or nothing' becasue no other TLD can top a TLD called .top and this will help your business.

Hopefully, I live long enough to see ".top. replace ".com" as #1 extension.

Still remember all the hype about ".mobi" becoming #1..
Just my opinion..
I don't think that you need to live very long to see that .com will be replaced from .top.
But regardless of that I wish you a long life of course ;)

I think it's disrespectful to be comparing .top with .com, so here is a hypothetical extension I think would easily beat .top-->

If there was an extension called: .go (dotgo),
Imo that would be way better than .top. It's makes sense and is short. You search, you go, you reach your destination. eBay.go man.go, Jeff.go. Or someone can say where can I go to find the best suits. You just have to say suitly! They know to add go on the end to reach that site.

I would apply for this extension of I had money instead of all the xyz, top, ws, website etc..

.go makes sense to me. I would take it seriously.
.go is not a complete bad idea (although it would be a cc TLD) but .top is / was 100 % the better idea - really, believe me.
.go describes an 'action' while .top describes a 'quality' (top quality).

Also a 3L TLD is more aesthetic than a 2L TLD, JMO.

.top is the global future extension and everybody knows that - that's why it is getting bashed instantly from .com souls.

Wouldn't using an extension like .top be telling the public that you are on top? Nothing to do with affordability. Maybe more to do with availability. Probably help your business tons. People knowing it's the top. Now, that's if we are to be taking the .top extension literally. Personally, I think the .top gtld will stay successful for many many years to come, just because of this. It can both be seen as a generic tld and a literal translation.

There's so many others that can be taken advantage of in this way, but I'll just use the some of the 3 letter gTLD's because there's simply too many out there now. Which also brings me something else you mentioned @dordomai

I would say that 90% of the newly launched TLDs are worse than the ones mentioned above. If we use history as our guide we can imagine how things will develop.

I would agree, a greater percentage of new tlds seem bad.. But so were the rest you mentioned travel/jobs/mobi/info what can you do with those beside a very select few exact frontal and rear lobotomy matches?

So what do we got...some of the same deal with some of these, but not all

1) .one - this one's (this is turning out to be a pun-laden sentence, aint it?) a smart one. A literal extension, less on being generic, though. Massive brandable. Thousands of brands use ONE as part of their name.

2) .top - already mentioned: literal, very generic. Multiple meanings, such as being above, a garment worn on the upper body, and a spinning toy.

3) .fyi - stands for For Your Information, this is a popular acronym in North America. Flows off the tongue easy. An extension like this can really only be taken literally. Not a great brandable either. But I like it more than .info. Very niche tld.

4) .xyz - I've never understood this one. I get confused just looking at it. Looks ugly.

5) .vip - stands for Very Important Person, another popular acronym. This extension has the advantage of not only being an acronym, it's also pronounciable. Not such a generic extension, very literal. It packs a punch, that's for sure.

6) .onl - short for Online. It's pronouncible, barely. Really doesn't make a lot of sense, redundant even. Looks ugly. Very small niche.

7) .red - This is an interesting one, but that's about it. Like a curiousity one sees and just moves along. Super literal, super small niche.

8) .gdn - stands for Global Domain Name. I think this could be a very good contender for a super-generic name. The problem is, I just don't like it. I don't get the point. Maybe that is the point? That it's not supposed to have a point.

9) .ooo - This extension IMO is very unique. It makes no sense whatsoever, but looks awesome in the url bar. I don't know if looking awesome in the url bar will be enough to keep it afloat though. And it's yearly renewals are enough to make you go "oooooo!". I would say this would be a brandable curiousity, but more generic than anything.

10) .lol - Something funny here? Could be, but since not everything is funny all of the time, this tld has limited capacity. Literal only, not very generic.

Because of such a late arrival to the namespace world, I think the success of any new TLD has to be graded differently than those of the traditionals. There's a lot more to go around now. The value and commodity comparison of 3-4 year old babies to the 30 year old wise men is akin to comparing a caterpillar to a butterfly.

Some of these extensions and many others are bringing a brand-new experience: the ability to brand yourself however the hell you want.

The choice of .com is based on the fact that it's used by almost every major business. It reigns supreme. People don't spend 7 figures if the name is it extension is garbage. .top is new, so why would someone forsake .com and just jump on to .top. Like any other area in life.. .top has to prove itself, starting with major businesses picking it up and startups etc.

Also, what weird .com combinations have you seen? Show some examples.

.top - garbage

Nothing compares to .COM and if you are really into domaining, you'll know it:

Beer.top sold for: $6,126
Beer.com sold for: $7,000,000
- That is more than a 1000 times more...

Porn.top sold for $8,061
Porn.com sold for $9,500,000
- That is more than a 1000 times more...

Shop.top sold for: $8,061
Shop.com sold for: $3,500,000
- That is more than 400 times more...

Game.top sold for: $12,529
Game.com sold for: $3,400,000
- That is almost 300 times more...

Vip.top sold for: $9,678
Vip.com sold for: $1,400,000
- That is about 150 times more...

With that said, .TOP is doing good, yeah almost great, with some Chinese words and short numerics. But comparing it .COM is just pointless. I understand your intention to start a hype, but smart domainers tend to rely on data.

At this time, no data at all are showing that .TOP names will even be worth a fragment of the corresponding .COMs. And, if you disagree, please back it up with some proof or stats. Not just that .TOP is 'nice to pronounce' or 'I think so'.

When starting this kind of threads, I think it's good to attach some kind of data or sources, proving your point.

Ps. Just to be clear, I certainly prefer a great one-word .TOP. .CLUB or .XYZ name, that a pointless two-word .COM combination.

Yes. Daniel Negari originally planned on making XYZ.com a registry that covered everything from A to XYZ.

Then when the GTLDs opened up he shifted his strategy and created an extension.

First, .com was 'alone' - so all your sale price comparisons are without any serious relation, I am sure you are aware about that.
Secondly, there were no single .com sale which reached your mentioned .top sale prices in the slightest after only 2 years of it's (.com's) existence.

As you said, just the opposite site of the sheet: Comparing .com with .top is just pointless - because the point goes to... .top

This means .top would do 'galaxies' better in a serious 'comparing'.
In this sense, you gave the data already ;)
