Hello everyone,

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that the next version of Windows is codenamed "Windows 7," and will be out in 3 years' time.

News here: http://news.com.com/Next+version+of+Windows+Call+it+7/2100-1016_3-6197943.html?tag=st_lh

I acted promptly, and managed to reg a few relevant (I think) domains. Please appraise these:

windows7preview.com
windows7previews.com (please note the difference - plural)

I have a few other windows7 - related domains too; would post them after some time.

Thanks,
Tassadar

Anyone? Please? :)

The domains were created on 21 July 2007, and I don't intend to develop them. I will be selling them for a fair price.

Thanks,
Tassadar (Rohit)

They aren't worth anything.

Trademarks, plus it's just a codename, so the domain name can't be used very long.

Thanks for the reply, BinderGang.

"Windows" is a trademark, but "Windows7" shouldn't be, since it's a codename. Still, there could be some downside, for sure.

Regarding the issue of the codename, Vista's codename was "Longhorn," and there was a popular website called "LonghornBlogs.com." I think "Longhorn preview(s)" would have been a common search term too, though, of course, only among programmers and technology enthusiasts.

You are, of course, right about the "cannot be used for very long" part. I estimate this term can be used for about 2 years, after which Microsoft is likely to announce the formal "consumer" name for the upcoming product. I feel 2 years is a decent time for an end-user to make some money from this domain, after which they can move on, or get a more generic name. (LonghornBlogs.com used their success to reinvent themselves as Windows-now.com)

Anyway, thanks for your appraisal. :)

OK, a new domain now. Please let me know if it is worth anything, or not.

windows7forums.org

I have a potential buyer for this domain, and I have to give them a quote. I want to quote a price that is fair to both parties. The potential buyer says they are a reseller, so I guess I will have to give them some margin for them to make a further profit.

Thanks,
Rohit

P.S.: Even if you think this domain is worthless, please do make a post. I am a newbie, and every little feedback helps. Plus, I have to give a quote to the potential buyer. Thanks!

Thanks, leede.

I'm a bit disappointed by the price you quoted, though. These domains looked like a great buy the day I bought them. I guess one learns from mistakes ... :)
