advice Domains at $0.5 to $0.85

Hi,
I have recently noticed people buying .com domains in bulk on the request forum at $0.5 to $0.85 per domain. Here I am purchasing a .com domain at around $10 each. Is there something that I am missing ?
How do people afford to sell their domains at such rates ?

Most likely they are up for renewal and they'd rather make a little $ back than renewing them or letting them drop

Domains that you can purchase for 1$ are really give away between forum members. They can fit nicely for a specific project, but they are probably unsellable.
