There is a domaining conference in Vegas in January. Is this a quality convention to attend?

So then it is not worth attending?

year after year, lot of promotions there, everyone now knows this conference.

I think their mission is obviously to increase the total revenue by leveraging their international influence, but they dont have enough attention to focus on individual quality.

As a domainer, you treat your domains like your own kids, they treat your domain like pork and chicken in supermarket

That's the key difference.

After the events, their financial reports can tell that they achieve millions of sales in one day, but the fact could be a lot of 5 figure names eventually sold in 4 figures

Man I was thinking of attending, but if it sucks then there is no need.

Thanks
NamesCon is now the biggest and best domaining conference out there. I've been to all 4 NamesCon shows, numerous Domainfest shows (back when), and Traffic, and there is no better way to meet and network with other domainers face to face. Well worth going to NamesCon next January, and tickets are cheaper to buy now, than latter. If you 'want2learn' this biz, I'd definitely suggest going and decide then it's value to you. Also there's a new conference this summer in NYC - NameSummit you may want to consider attending.

I have bad experience with namescon

Any organizations and groups don't care about individual customers, they don't really understanding to do good business

I really enjoyed Namescon. I pretty much try to attend all domain name industry events that are close enough to where I live.

It has been great to actually meet some of the people that I correspond with via the internet regularly.

For me, it is definitely a worthwhile event. But, for me, I had made a conscious decision to get more involved.

I guess if you can make it a part vacation, part domain event, it could be a great time.

em...I dont want to mislead, maybe it is worth to attend because you can know more experienced domainers and face to face learn lots of things. you can definitely learn better this industry if you attend. just dont expect too much

I am saying the negative part only apply to the selling price of the domains

where to sell doesn't really matter, attending this event doesnt help selling high- sometimes maybe low

Too bad Namepros doesn't do a raffle or give away for Vegas Conference. That would be awesome, especially if I won a ticket or two! I checked the dates for NYC, and we start back to school already. Will be easier to go to Vegas!

I decided I am going to the one in Vegas when I heard about it for a few reasons.
I am a days drive away.
It is January. Far warmer in Vegas than where I reside.
A legit excuse to go to Vegas.
People from around the world gathering together who have been doing what I am trying to learn.

I am certain there will be so much bs to sort through your head will spin. How can there not be? That will be part of the fun and learning as well.

That is exactly what I had in mind as well. Well except for a short drive away . . .

I've been to every NamesCon and all have been superb at bringing together registrars, registries, parking companies, lead generation companies, brokers, investors, regulatory folks, and the occasional industry outsider that wanted to understand what the commotion was about. I expect that the 2018 NamesCon will be different than past events, because it is going to be under new management and because several new conference competitors have sprung up. I will attend each, and expect something different from each.

Here are some conferences to consider before NamesCon 2018.
  1. NameSummit in New York - Aug 7-8. Domain industry base targeting topic and audience of digital branding. Expect audience sized from 100-500. New York shows tend to get a lot of local 1-day attendees that can push the audience size higher, and considering the number of high profile digital branding companies in New York - this excites me. I will be speaking at this conference, and you can get a discount on the ticket with this link. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/name-s...ce-tickets-32567772083?discount=MMXNameSummit
  2. WHD.usa (organized by the WorldHostingDays GmbH) will take place from 11th September to 12th September 2017 at the Tropicana Las Vegas in Las Vegas. It hopes to attract 1,000 attendees. The event is about the web hosting industry, but web hosting and domain names are intertwined. There will surely be sessions about domain names and you’ll see lots of domain industry people there.
  3. MERGE! will be held at the Marriott World Center in Orlando, Florida, from October 14 to 18th. With focused sessions and sub-conferences under a single ticket, the event is designed to attract like minded professionals and emerging talents across different disciplines so they can meet, network, and grow from the show experience. This looks like an awesome format for a show, as it merges several existing -successful conference from different areas of the Internet into one event. Take a look at the full show description at http://mergeshow.com/
I don't think the industry can support a lot of stand alone domain conferences, but as you notice these shows fuse domains with other areas of the Internet - which is smart.

I have been attending domain industry conferences since 2004, and I have attended while representing myself as an investor, as a broker, as a registrar, as a parking company, and as a registry. I have always benefited from attending, because I build personal relationships with people I would otherwise only connect with online or by phone. I have fast tracked many business opportunities because communication is easier when meeting face-to-face. I have also had my mind opened to new ideas and opportunities, which is what happens when people meet.

I encourage you to attend at least one of the shows and when you are there - try to meet every person there.
