Domain Typo Variation Question

When checking possible typo domains is it a common practice for web surfers to miss the "." in .com? For instance, would it be worth registering a name like myspacecom.com? (Just an example!)

If the name were available and someone typed in myspacecom (forgetting the period) would it resolve to myspacecom.com or is it even possible?

Any info would be appreciated.

I remember that happening to me a few times in IE if I didn't type in name extension, I'm not too sure about Firefox though.

It's hard to say really though if people really make that mistake a lot or what not, depends on the speed of the typer I guess whether their clumsy enough to miss the period or not.
