Domain Trading

Is it rude to approach a domain owner and ask to trade domains? There are a couple of domains that I can use for my business and I'm wondering if this ever happens?

I can't see how it might be considered rude, especially if it's a possible 'win-win' scenario. Or could be shaped into being one. Eg. 2 or more domain names traded for 1. 1 domain name and some $ in trade for 1. ......... .

But if they are the kind who might consider such rude, they can always not reply to your inquiry. And if they did consider it rude and said so, I'd maybe suggest to them to get over it. It's just an inquiry.

I don't envisage this to be a very successful strategy. Most domainers prefer the cash. So unless the value proposition is greatly in the sellers favor, with domains they would actually want, you are not likely to be successful. I've had more than several offers for swaps, but none have ever come to fruition because of this. Of course if you offered me mortgage.com, I'd give you 95% of my portfolio I have never thought any swap offers to be rude.

I'm personally a big fan of trading although It's uncommon and I don't know why. If I have a domain that most would call "Liquid" at $xxx-$xxxx, and you have a few domains that aren't "liquid" (or vice-versa) but they interest me personally and I'd pay a sum equal to the value of my domain, why not? I think it's fair and creates room for possibilities.

I've made a trade or two here at namepros, .tv domains for other .tv domains. Its been years ago, though.

I don't think it is rude...especially if you give more than you ask for(sweeten the pot)..for instance you want a domain worth $2000..offer one worth $2500.
