Interesting. If you divide the number of citizens through the number of registratiions for each
countrycode you will found out that(leaving .com apart) the .NL ccTLD has the most registrations
per citizen.

I've found a couple of sources for TLD zone sizes: HosterStats Domain Counts (some data missing), and Enom's RegistrarStats (less coverage), but the numbers are slightly different from the ones posted here so I'd be interested in knowing what the source was.

Some of the stats above are from around the end of July 2009. I was so busy adding direct DNS search (now it is possible to search domain history, webhoster history (by hoster's domain name) and DNS by dns name (eg: dns1.name-services.com )that I hadn't much of a chance to update some of the ccTLD stats. Most of the start of month figures have been updated today.

Not quite. But ccTLDs are beginning to make serious gains in many countries. The .com growth has been obscured for the last few years by domain tasting but there are at least two million new .com domains every month. The net growth of .com varies but for September, it was around 533K.

Some of the newer gTLDs like .mobi, .asia and .tel are growing at different rates. The .mobi is the biggest at 860001 domains as of 01/October. It is beginning to regain the Junk Dump losses. The .asia sTLD is not doing so well at the moment. The .tel is growing but it is just coming out of its landrush phase. It may be hard for new gTLDs to gain registration volume.

.me registrations hit 250,000 in May 2009

CNnic (The Chinese ccTLD registry has only released the figures up to August 2009.)

Some ccTLD registries do not provide a current domain count. Some of the smaller ccTLD registries do not provide any public statistics.
