Domain question

i want to get a domain for a classifieds site the original .com name that i wanted is taken

should i go for the .net or ad the word "THE" in front of it and get the .com

or put the word "Online" after it and get the .com

For me, it would depend on how memorable and/or brandable the name would be with each of the alternatives you've presented.

Go for .com man unless you are getting really a neat name with .net. Or why don't you try for .biz ? I really like .biz

I would personally go for the "Raw" Keyword domain in a Lesser Extension - Unless you just want a .com for Branding. I'd be careful about adding words like "The" to it IMO ~ and would probably only go for the " ____ Online" domain if there is evidence that The combo of words are used or searched for frequently.

If you're really serious about building your brand then .com is the choice, but if you can't wait then register the .net version while negotiating with the the .com owner to purchase the domain.

I would get the .net
sure you'll lose the traffic to the .com but if you got a good site up running people will put it in their bookmarks and stuff

If it's a memorable word, go with the .NET or another TLD version of the domain. Internet users are fairly intelligent and know that there are other domains than .COM

the best is to get BOTH!

get both and use the .com and foward the .net that way you can check what domain is typed more.

And the traditional warning that "THEebay.com" is not an ok way to do things

i just got an email back from the person who owns the .com version of the .net i bought and they wanted $850.00 for it
