I am new to the domain name market and I just bought my first two names to resell. Could you tell me how much there worth and where is the best place to sell them?

StyleBackground.com - I think this name would be good for a web designer. Google search volume is average of 590 per month.

Fall2009.com - I think this would be perfect for any type of event or an edge on the 2009 shopping season. It's memorable.

Thanks for your help and I look forward to your opinions.

Fall2009.com - problem for this type of domains is it's good only for that year or some years near it. not good for resale.

StyleBackground - 14.5M results with space on it, 13M results without space on google.com.ph results, must be something. it connotes a name that's needed to be developed with "portfolio" of backgrounds or even a whole template, you can only make money if you sell original designs, end user: graphic artist, or web designers anyone dealing with designs on the internet.

What did you pay for these domains? That will give you a clue to their value.

I payed reg fee for both, but I think they're worth a little more than that IMO

Can anyone put a ballpark figure on these names? I think an impulse buyer with a large marketing budget would pay good money for Fall2009.com, but I'd be happy to get a fair wholesale price.

The more I think about it, the more I want to keep StyleBackground.com and develop it as my own site. But I'm not a good designer and couldn't make a fraction of what a pro could make.

That's what everybody thinks and the registrars make big money because of people's egos, "I'm smart and will reg a really good domain and then sell it".

The problem is that 99% of the time the person is wrong and just makes a donation to the registrar. This is no exception.

If you want to make money in this market, you must start with a valuable domain to own a valuable domain unless you develop. Only someone with a ton of experience and a lot of luck can flip a hand reg. It's easier to sell ice cubes to Eskimos.

Both = Zero to reg fee undeveloped. IMO.

Best of luck with your domaining adventures.....

I don't think that's necessarily true... I just flipped 4 hand regged domains to a big domaining company for $20 each...
Nothing to shout about, I know, but it paid for a few of the other mistakes I made.

I probably should have defined my meaning of the word 'valuable'. :sold:

I have to agree with Microguy on this one. Undeveloped, you'd be lucky to recoup your reg fee. It's not impossible to get lucky and find someone to buy one or both domains, but there is nothing inherently valuable enough in either one to count on it.

On any given name, I'd suggest that you ask yourself if you would be willing to keep paying the reg fee for 10 years to keep the name for the day the right buyer comes along. If not, then you are just buying a lottery ticket, essentially hoping that the right buyer will walk along at the right time and snap it up this year.

We all know what the odds are on lottery tickets...

Well that's a disappointment, but better to know now before I buy up a bunch of worthless crap like...

CancerZodiacSign.com
FederalLemonLaw.com
DiseaseOutbreak.com
MarioMushroom.com

Any of these worth more than reg fee?

The age-old adage "you get what you pay for" applies even more so to domain names.
