Domain names and Ebay?

Hello folks, I'm new here...

I was wondering if anyone here had any advice, I own a small social networking / museum site and also have some other various domain names but have found little interest through selling them on ebay.com

Is ebay a bad place to try? I have signed up to Sedo and Moniker, but they're not great either... I either get declined for auctions or miss out completley?

Any help would be great
Thanks
J

IMO - ebay sales are typically the bottom feeder of the domain sellers. You have folks taking as little as .99 for domains. I have no idea how or why they do it and make any money unless they are somehow getting the domains for free???

There are also so many scammers on there as well so I would be leary of my bidders if posting on ebay (but thats for anything on ebay not just domain names).

Do an ebay search for completed domain sales results and there you will see what some of the high dollar amounts sold for (dont pay attention to the idiots listing domains for like 30 million dollars lolol).

LOL, I know there are ridiculous prices on there...

Has anyone here ever had any successful sales or success stories?

I know the smaller the domain the better but some of mines are pretty good I thought, but not short...

I would say if you wish to scrape the bottom of the barrel then go to Ebay, it may be true that there are many people there, but that also means that there are millions of worthless domains flooding it and yours will never get seen and never get the bid it deserves.

And then there are the issues of payment and transference...

eBay is the worst. And it has gotten a lot worse in the last year.

Why do people list their site for like 10,000,000 dollars on ebay?

It seems many do. Who could take that seriously? If they will take 100k why not just say that? Who make a best offer for say 8 million?

Doesn't it cost a lot to list a domain for 10 million?

Because then they get people visiting their site, even if it costs them a little it bumps up the traffic stats considerably and ripens any deal with a little black hat magic.

I think it's also to do with people who search from Highest to Lowest, they expect Highest priced to be better domains... but that's having a laugh at those prices...

Is there anywhere on this forum you can list domains for consideration of sale? (I don't want to list and spam, need to know first)

Thanks

I don't think so, if someone listed a site and I expected it to be sold I would end up getting pissed if the person had no intention...

Unless I am confused about what you are really asking?

Sorry I should have worded that better, I mean for people to consider/talk abotu if they would be interested in buying etc...

Basically somewhere I can list some domains to see if anyone's interested in buying?

Thanks

I initially used Ebay for several domains...Not anymore. The buyers there do not seem to be interested in going beyond a few dollars.

Ebay has worked well for me for a few things: sifting out the bottom 20% of my portfolio (even with a small profit margin over reg fee!), generating cash for new hand regs, and building a small client list. For new domainers, you have to start somewhere, and Sedo isnt that place for me. Ive sold a handful of domains on Godaddy, sold a couple dozen here, and sold a few at other sites...but i sold 200+ in two weeks on Ebay and made a small profit on the vast majority over reg fee. I'll never list my gems on Ebay. There are some absolutely amazing deals for buyers, however....in the form of 3-word . com, 2-word nets and orgs, and some really good . info and . us. If you have a limited budget and want to improve your portfolio, it can be a useful tool.

J2010,

First welcome to namepros and I hope you do some reading on the forums....it will improve your success by 1000% and also the members here will help you with anything you have question on etc.

I noticed your domain sales and wanted to give some advice on your registrations. First and this should be the most important....stay away from trademarked names..."Twitter, Famous Actors names, and companies.....they can simply take your names away and/or sue you. So please when you go to register a new name....make sure there are no trademark issues etc.

As far as Ebay......I have yet to even try there....I'm very comfortable here on namepros...we have a great group of domainers/developers/etc and I have nothing but good transactions here.

So once again welcome to namepros.com and do about 2 or 3 weeks of reading and asking questions....trust me the information on this site is worth absolute gold ;)

Cheers

Hi Thanks, taken onboard, I did see that before but always read mixed opinions on it... I take it it's true then?

200+ @ .99 when you can sell 20 @ $10 .
Ebay is the place for cheap ppl.
