Hi Folks, I was wondering if someone could answer the following question for me. "If I request a domain name transfer to enom.com away from godaddy and the name was registered at godaddy for 10 years, would I receive that 10 years also at enom at no extra cost or would I have to reg it for 10 years all over again?" Silly question maybe, but I just want to make absolutely certain before I initiate a transfer request.

Thanks in advance.

You don't lose any "years" when you transfer but I have heard discussions before about nothing more than ten years transferring. All transfers include a one year renewal so my question is will your domain now expire in 11 years.

I believe, as Acts states, you'll get the current period it's registered for automatically, PLUS an additional year that you'll have to pay for (at Enom) along with the "pull" over, IMHO. Just would seem to be consistent, and make the most sense.
I'm unaware of any 10-year limits to transferring, but you could check in with Enom first or watch for other posts here.
All the best!

Good luck with your domain transfer dandydomain, it should only take a day or so to transfer your domain to another Registar.

I thought there was a ten year limit on registrations - ie, a domain cannot be registered for more than ten years. Whilst you would not lose any time off of it, it is unlikely that it would then be reg'd for 11yrs - possibly best to wait until it has 9yrs left on it before transferring it.
