We currently own a 2 letter .com domain and we need to get a few appraisals on the name and also seek a broker who can market the domain for us. Can anyone give us an idea of the pros and cons of some of the companies out on the marketplace? How do we know that they will act in our best interest? Since it is a 2 letter .com domain it is not key word search strong but can be a strong branding domain. This being the case we would think marketing to companies directly may be the way to go and get the best return. Any suggestions and help would be appreciated.

Thanks for that nice information... I think we need someone to help him out with the pros and the cons though.

I think the first place to start is to compile a list of all major companies whose trade name is represented by your two letters.

This is along the same lines as the original question, but are there any domain brokers/companies that actively contact buyers or companies to make a potential sale? It seems to me like I'm finding most places allow you to list for sale, but this seems to require a buyer happening upon the listing. Thanks to anyone who can share sources or advice... Thanks, Josh :)

There really are no major "true brokers" out there any more who actively promote for you other than listing it. for one thing, the active promotion could actually backfire into a reverse hijack attempt if you try it on the wrong company. A high profile 2 letter .com would probably do best if it got a lot of industry publicity prior to an auction. Maybe even on ebay if you built up enough hype ahead of time.

Thanks for the feedback. That does make good sense :)

On another related note, has anyone had any luck contacting companies directly themselves when offering names to sell? For example, is an initial email contact better, or a call? ... Looking forward to hearing everyone's advice... Thanks
