.US domains.US domains
.EU domains are still in the sunrise period. You can register them only if you are a company and can proof you deserve a certain domain (i.e. if you are the Nike, you can ask for Nike.eu).
The registration for the mortal people will be open at April, 6 2006. Until now you can only pre-register a domain and the 6 of april your register will try to get it for you, if he will be enough quick, he will get the domain, because the policy used is the "first come first served".
You must be an european citizen to do so.

Just ask them to pre-reserve it for you in their name and send them the money :)

How much to pre-reserve? Do you guys think that some generic .eu domain names are going to go for a lot of $$$ like some of the .com names?

Looking at the huge number of pre-registration that have been made, i think that the .EU domains will be pretty famous since the first months, probably beating in quantity other players such as .US and .info.
.coms are feel a way too much "americacentric" in europe i guess, and even if the establishment of .eu will be slow, some kinds of keywords could be very very worthful. I'm thinking about all the country/cities/places wich have not been reserved, and all the travel related keywords, and also all the general industry keywords.
It's a matter of fact that at this moment there's a big interest around this TLD, probably more then when other recent tlds (.info, .us, .biz) was relased.
