Hi,

I am going to start with my very first domain auction in a couple of days to try and secure some expired domains.

Does anybody have any tips on how to get involved with a private auction without spending too much on a worthless domain and what kind of strategy can I use to try and win the auction.

Regards,

Welcome to NamePros Dan!

This can be a really long list of tips.

Some of the techniques for winning an auction without overspending are platform-specific. Would you wish to share which service you are planning to use?

I backordered the domains through Snapnames, Pool and NameJet. Already I can see that 6 people are bidding on the domain at NameJet and 3 for the other one.

The stats look very good. One of the domains is a confirmed PR4 and has hundreds of quality backlinks in all the major search engines. It also has a good Alexa rank and is listed in DMOZ and Yahoo.

This is my first auction and I don't think I am going to win them if they are really that good because I don't have a big budget. I am just trying to get a feel for how the auctions are run so in the future I can hopefully secure some good names.

Regards,
Dan :)
