just got this e-mail from GoDaddy

Hello There,

As part of our dedication to transparency within the Domain Aftermarket we will share a curated list of our public top sales including domain name and the corresponding price of the transaction, beginning in October.

We are excited for the additional visibility this will provide Domain Investors such as yourself.

If you would like to request a transaction to be excluded from publication, please contact your account manager at Premier Services, Afternic, or email [email protected]

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
We will only be reporting top 20 across our platforms

Why only the top 20? Sedo for example makes weekly reports of all their sales (at least the non opted-out) over $2,000 if I'm not wrong.
It would be very good for the domain industry, and for Godaddy and Afternic, if you disclose all the sales over $2,000.
The more sales you report, the more people will be willing to list their domains for sale at Godaddy and Afternic. And also it would help to get a better idea of the real end user domain sales, not only the ones reported at auctions.

Any luck bringing back Uni sales reports?

Sorry, Paul, you posting here is the equivalent of a Halley's Comet appearance.

Samer

This is meant to replace the Uni sales report, it will include Uni sales as well as Afternic and GoDaddy.

Sorry for being so absent recently, I'll try better

Very good news. Giving the fact that currently a very high amount of sales to end users are being done through Godaddy. Hopefully they will report all the top sales, not only till $25,000.

They should have never stopped reporting their domain sales, because it's very important and valuable to know the end user domain sales, and not just the auction sales at reseller price reported at namebio, in order to have a more serious figure about the real end user prices.

@Joe Styler @Paul Nicks
Will the publication exclusion apply to both the buyer and/or seller?
I think it is important that both parties have a say in this.

Some buyers may prefer that their shareholders (or wives) don't realise how much of their second mortgage was just dumped on a domain name ;)

Either party can email our team asking for exclusion

@Paul Nicks - I do have sales both through afternic and through godaddy premium listings and/or auctions. However, I have zero interest to have either of them disclosed. So, the questions: How fast should I act preparing the list of domains? Will send to my GD account manager. Also, any way to make this setting permanent? Thank you.

Edited: To save time preparing the data. Will GD report all sales by default, or sales in some range only (min., max., etc?)

The sales will be published roughly 3 months after they have closed, so I'd say to be safe you should notify your premier rep within 2 months of the sale.

We will only be reporting top 20 across our platforms, so no set min/max but I think it's safe to assume smaller sales you wouldn't need to worry about

Will NameFind sales be included in the data?

yes, NameFind sales will be included as a general rule. Under special circumstances, buyer's request for instance, we will exclude individual sales just like anyone else is able to do.

There are internal restrictions that forced 20 per month as a compromise vs nothing

Thanks for the reply. Well yes, definitely 20 per month is better than nothing :)

In fact, reporting the Top 20 sales per month at Godaddy and Afternic will be very important for the industry. So thanks again for it!

Instead of emailing it would be better - if you could offer this feature within the Afternic control panel.
Perhaps a global setting for Sellers?
Saves both the Sellers & your Customer Service Agents time.

@Paul Nicks
What exactly is a GD account manager?
Do I qualify for one of these 'account managers'?
Never got this email you guys are referring too.

I just got the same email.
It was not mentioned in this thread, but email subject is:

Top 20 Public Monthly Domain Sales from GoDaddy

@Paul Nicks can you please clarify how one is supposed to know that his sale (or purchase) belongs to top 20, in order to potentitally exclude it before the list is live? Are we missing something here? WIll GD report ALL sales or not?

We will report all top 20 sales unless they are opted out. If you have a very large sale that you don't want made public you can email us to exclude. I can't provide specific guidelines as sales vary per month, but I would say a 5 figure sale is a reasonable assumption for something that may make a top 20 list

GoDaddy has a special accounts team called Premier Services, typically if you carry at least 250 domains with GoDaddy you may qualify. You do not need to have a premier rep in order to opt out though, simply email our support team auctions@godaddy

To report or not to report? A related thread:

https://www.namepros.com/threads/breaking-news-not-all-domain-sales-are-reported.1171438/

====

Just Imho-

Possible reasons not to report sales:

- NDA

- Being too busy

- Not seeing how it would benefit the business

- Seeing how it may harm the business (For example: oh, he sold blah-blah dot something. He knows his job. What other niches he is in? Let me also try...)

Possible reasons to report sales:

- Being a domain marketplace (needs to be promoted!)

- Need to satisfy an ego. Also,
Compensation (psychology). In psychology, compensation is a strategy whereby one covers up, consciously or unconsciously, weaknesses, frustrations, desires, or feelings of inadequacy or incompetence in one life area through the gratification or (drive towards) excellence in another area,

- Being a good Samaritan - dedicating time and efforts to support third party platforms like dnjournal or namebio, and/or trying to make the industry better by educating potential buyers.

====

I personally do not want to see my sales reported, so thank you @Paul Nicks for limiting the report to 20 domains and for an opportunity to exclude sales... Yeah, some folks may be of different opinion. Even right here on NP, a number of members do contribute exclusively or almost exclusively reporting their sales. To each his own... :)

You opted in when you clicked that "accept all cookies and close" window on top. There was a fine print there ;)
Well these days I never get emails from them even promo ones.

Transparency and curated in the same sentence? Is there not just going to be a database of all sales made through the marketplaces (excluding those who opt out)?

No, our intention is not to maintain a database of sales to the public, there are services like namebio that do that already

•••
Also, after all the "curating" will the list look like that:

undisclosed name $50,000 (or $xx,xxx)
some domain . tld $40,000
undisclosed name $30,000
another domain . tld $25,000
...

or rather:
some domain . tld $40,000
another domain . tld $25,000
...

I.e. will we even know that the top20 reported domains are actually in the top20 sales?

It will be top 20 reportable (non-excluded) sales. I don't see a lot of value in showing a redacted domain
