Let's say I want to be a real estate agent and my name would be something like "Steve". Would Steve.realestate rank better than Steverealestate.com?

No. It will not be ranked better by Google, just because of tld.
But the big disadvantage of getting ''.realstate'' is that people both online and offline will be massively ''not getting it'', constantly mistaking you for SteveRealEstate.com.

But if you want you can get both tlds, putting redirects to your site and playing with them, seeing reactions.
