Does anyone know of a really simple script where my bodyshop guy can give his customers a username and a password then they can see the progress of hoe their cars comming along with pictures and short comments.

I'd try looking for free gallery scripts that let you define accounts. Other than that, you could always just rig it up with wordpress using pw protected posts in a matter of minutes.
