Do you use Aptana Studio to develop website?

I came across this open-source web development IDE (Aptana) recently and found it much better than my frequently used programmer editor.

Version 3.0 beta supports HTML5 and CSS3. I tried it but went back to version 2.0 for its broader feature set. When version 3.0 comes out, it'll be my preferred tool for developing HTML5 applications.

I'm learning how to use it, so am wondering if others are also using it to develop their sites.

Any positive experience?

If you don't mind, in what way are you using Aptana? I'm most interested in learning HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript to write web apps over the longer term. It appears there's no visual drawing ability yet. An issue, though not critical, is Aptana 2.0 does not support Safari (on Windows at least) as embed browser.

I haven't used it for a while....

What I like is that it comes with Javascript debugger built in.
It also used to be with a PHP debugger = but they've shifted their efforts to the PDT Debugger as a plugin.

It's also based on Eclipse which is familiar to me from doing other development. I don't really need a WYSIWYG editor.. as long as I can see the output. I prefer the hands on..

I used Dreamweaver too for some of the more CSS oriented tasks but it's too expensive so I'm weaning my way off it.

I also do some things with Microsoft Express Web Developer which is nice as well. But that was mre when I was investigation .NET options a little more. You should check it out too though.

Not yet found free dreamweaver replacement :)

Thanks for sharing, defaultuser. I'm really not a graphical person. It'll help me greatly if the system can provide me with a package of ready-to-use controls or components such as checkbox, text box, drop-down list, button so I can just put them on the screen and start writing event programs in Javascript.

I like that you can register your own template in Aptana, though.

Let me know if you find anything decent.

Sounds to me like you need a Dreamweaver & Aptana solution :)

Looks like jQuery and jQuery UI (all free) are the answer to go along with Aptana. If interested, get the ebook (hard cover about $39)version free now that Spain has won the World Cup. SitePoint : New Articles, Fresh Thinking for Web Developers and Designers. (I like this marketing plot.) I just downloaded it this morning and it's a very good read. The offer is only good for 24 hours.

I downloaded it.

JQuery is just a Javascript library. It will provide you with great access to pre-built "widgets". You may also check out Dojo or mootools.

I've used dojo mostly.

Thanks for the link!

Thanks for the info. I've bookmarked them. It's really nice to see so many UI libraries available for JavaScript. Really save a lot of time. Is there a central place which has a listing of all libraries for JavaScript?
