When trying to get a domain how much importance do you give to the fact that the domain is registered in other tlds?

Rarely, as most of mine are premium dot coms!

It's not the biggest factor, but if a .com is available and the .net and .org are taken, it sure makes it more attractive. It's easier to find a buyer if you know who owns the domain in lesser extensions.
