Just wondering.

If you find a domain name and you were able to secure both of the top 2 TLDs for that domain (.COM, .NET,) would this not be likely to increase the value of the .COM by more than just the cost of the .NET if you offered all 4 domains as a package?

So let's say Tina was looking for the domain TinasToys.com because she own a chain of stores called Tina's Toys and she would like to build her business into a large internet/mailorder outfit. Let's say that Tina could register the domain because someone already registered it.

So she comes here and finds that the owner is selling TinasToys.com so she buys it for $70.00. Would it be possible that Tina might pay, say, $80-120.00 for the 2 domain package (TinasToys.com & TinasToys.net)? After all, it helps her to secure and protecther brand. No one can put up another toy site (or otherwise competing site) on Tina'sToys.net becasue she owns it as well and therefore by buying the .NET as well, she is able to better protect her brand.

PERSONALLY;
As I develop an on-line business, I reg the dot com's in various Variations of the name or closely related areas. The dot net or other tld's are a VERY last resort. If the names are already in use, I wouldn't want my traffic and customers ending up on a competitor's site.

I personally don't buy any typos/other extensions, but thats just because of my limited budget. I think it really depends on your buyer. For example, your example, I don't think it would increase that much because they aren't great keywords. But on the other hand, if you had a 3 letter domain in the .com , .net , .org , and .us , or any combination of these, I would expect the price to go way up. (low-mid $xxx) ;)

I believe the price in general will be higher. Itยดs always nice to have the .net version, especially if it is an important site, and some people like to have the .net version as the main domain.

depends on the name and the aim. If the domain will be developed into a very good site, then it will be very good to have the .net as well.

imho

i really dont sell names but all the same ... if a name has real value and the intention is to build a brand around it then the owner would want all the defensive regs as well ...

it really comes down to your budget, if you can carry the extra reg fees and the name has a chance of selling then it might be worthwile to spend the extra $$ on the others

I agree, samename.

BUt I am not too sure it is a lucrative market.

I think in certain situations it can certainly increase the value. For example, I own:

IdahoInvestments.com (main site)
IdahoInvestment.com
IdahoInvesting.com

IdahoInvestments.com was bought on the secondary market and I reg'd the latter two. Together, I know that the name recall effect, i.e. "now what was that... IdahoInvestment or something .com. Now matter which they try (recall), they get to the site.

Lastly, it protects the brand from other folks... for example, if I spend thousands monthly promoting the site, I don't want my competitor getting one of the secondary domains and getting type in traffic.

In summary, the .nets are a secondary concern to the logical .com versions of the domain.

Hope this helps... just my 2 cents.

It blows out your costs, 2X, 3X, 4X, greatly reducing your chance of making a profit.

It could increase the value if other TLDs get registered, if not, it's a waste of money :imho:

It's a possibility that the customer interested wants the .net but then again, it all depends on their budget and other factors.
