DNS: Real world not matching expectations.

Hi,

I thought if I leave files at the old host, while the new site is also ready, and change the DNS, then the site will be online 100% (always either connecting with the old host or new).

Right now I can't access either. Assuming I did the settings right, what is wrong? Shouldn't it always resolve to either the old or the new DNS? :tri:

Thanks.

EDIT: Now it's resolving to the old host, but I know for certain it was not 5 minutes ago. Perhaps this is normal during the propagation?

You didn't mention if you had private nameservers, or the ones the host gave you.

If you have private nameservers, make sure you updated the IP address to the new one.

If you have nameservers the host gave you, it should do it once the nameservers are finished setting up.

Yes, it should always be the case. Probably there's downtime with your old host.

Yep, that should work ok. Perhaps your old host had some problems. In any case i would contact them to get a definitive answer ...
