I have been watching a DN and it should be released tomorrow. I can attempt to grab it myself or use a drop service.

Who is the best or has the best track record?

Backorder with Pool.com, NameJet.com AND SnapNames.com to give yourself the best shot at it. If they have a backorder for it, I would bet one of them would get it. Problme is if more than on person have that same idea, you will be sent to auction. GOod luck

So did you backorder it or pick it up after it dropped?

Well,sorta...but now got more questions and confused even more!

I did all 3...pool, namejet, and snap names - all 3 said they dont charge your CC til they sucure it

Here is series of events:

  • My CC got charged XX by Pool this morning! WAHOO! That means they got it for me!!!
  • Waited all day for email or change on whois.sc - nothing!
  • Just got email from namejet - said I am now in auction
  • Checked namejet - 2 bidders - OK not 100 bidders!

Questions
  • But - why did Pool charge CC? Still shows pending deltion at thier site in my account
  • Where is domain now? NameJet or in a open aution with all 3 of those services?
  • The 2 bidders...are they both me? 1 @ namejet - the other @ pool? Am i bidding against myself?

GRRR- HELP!

Check your bank to see if it was actually a charge. Normally, when you put a new CC in at Pool for the first time, they put a pre-authorization on it.

The way to find out who actually has it, is to look at the whois, for the registrar it landed at.

When a domain goes into pending delete it can no longer be "reserved" by the existing registrar, and it's a free-for-all grab when it actually drops. So if it has dropped and reregistered you need to look in the registrar's whois to check 1) that there is a new registration date, 2) who the new owner is. It has been known that both SnapNames and NameJet sometimes start an auction before they have actually won the domain. So my guess would be that Pool (and you) won the domain and it just a matter of time before it all becomes clear. That's my take on your situation.

The registrar is important. If it's a Pool registrar, your probably safe. If it's a NameJet or SnapNames registrar you need to bid for the domain in their respective private auction. If the registrar is not obvious who they are are associated with, then post it here, and hopefully somebody will recognise them.

Enom and namejet are owned by the same company. You need to win the auction at namejet to get the domain.

A bigger problem is that some of these companies have admitted to committing fraud. SnapNames.com is known for SHILL BIDDING (which means that their site is programmed to bid against you). Of course, they claim to be clean now, but who really knows. If you use these types of companies, DO NOT allow automatic bidding of any kind. Take the time to bid yourself. Also research the user names of anyone bidding against you to see if others have noticed something suspicious. With the Halvarez SnapNames case, this community among other sounded the alarm long before it was admitted that shilling bidding was taking place. As it turns out, we were right. Apparently, 1 out of 20 SnapName auctions was bid on by at least one SnapNames staff members (who did not go to jail for fraud). That's right. At least every 20th SnapNames.com domain auction was fraudulent. Keep that in mind when using auction sites.
