DN deals with Politicians

this month i observed some funny things: there were many regs. by Obama Admin. i guess they are all "preventive" regs.

to give you one example: O.f.a.k.y (omit dots) com/net/org

(i have not found a blog post about these from domainers, but i think its a good and funny subject. so if you read this .... ;)

now i have a .com of one of these domains
(its a 5 letter name and can also be used for other "funny" things. in fact when i acquired it, i didn't know that it could also be
used related to Obama!).

its not a name of someone and has no issues whatsoever. its a madeup word. so i am absolutely safe.

the .net and org of this name are now been registered by obama admin. 2 weeks ago

now i received a request if i am interested to sell the domain. (from an individual with a gmail account).

my guess is, its either from obama campaign or from republicans campaign.

i have no experience with politics related domain names.
my fields are brandables/short names/generic product, service domain names.
and i always stay out of TM, names of famous people, politics, etc.

but now that someone knocks at my door.....what the heck... (assuming its from them and not from a domainer or from someone with a totally different idea)

anyone with experience with selling domain names to them and willing to share the story / advice / etc?

you could also PM me. i can PM the name.

I think you first need to make sure it doesn't have any TM issues. After that probably you can reply back saying they can make an offer to see what range they might be playing at...

no TM issue or any other issue (i always check this BEFORE i reg./buy a name anyways).

i have already asked them to offer me their best price for consideration.

but what i would like to know is, if someone has any experience selling domain names to such campaigns. are there any reported sales in the past to them? etc

I have had one experience Locally in the UK. They wanted the sale kept *private* They offered a decent amount though and I swiftly accepted. If its really from his campaign team these guys mean Business. But you also be careful its not a Scam I don't trust those gmail addresses. I have to also say most politicians prefer to use a median like a professional service to acquire domains from them. I certainly did not receive a request from a gmail account.

But Good Luck

Anyway Good Luck.

I've had a large company knock at my door using a hotmail account, just to create a cover..

What I did is call the company and said that I wanted to discuss their offer. They admitted they made the offer, so once that was cleared up I knew what I could ask.

Just ask the gmail guy what he is planning to use it for. If it's a bogus story call the .net/org registrant and tell him you received his offer and want to talk about it.
