Direct my Domain Strategy: .ST or Invest in revenue DN?

Hi,

I'm looking for advice on establishing my domain portfolio:
Should I go with .st domains that are likely to get traffic (I already have 1 getting traffic 0- 3 hits/day) or purchase some DNs already earning revenue? The .STs would probably cost 350 canadian (looking at buying into the partnership program) and I'd be willing to put up to that much for a domain earning revenue that would get me my money back over a few months.

How do you assume .st domains are likely to get traffic ? It's an obscure TLD if you ask me. If you have one that gets some hits you should investigate where the traffic comes from.
Just because you have traffic does not mean it will be easy to convert to revenue. And good luck to resell a .st. If you use it for your own purpose OK but you start at a disadvantage with an exotic TLD.
My advice would be to diversify, there is nothing wrong with high-risk TLDs as long as they only make a tiny percentage of your domain portfolio.

.ST is Sao Tome and Principe - they are islands on the western coast of Africa near the equator. Although they promote their names to the world as "street" and for telephone numbers, the info I have is that there is a $45 transfer fee that does not add renewal time.

One problem with the rare TLD extensions is that nobody is going to care how much you have paid for reg and renewals when you go to sell the name.

Don't be too sure. I grab domains a few times a month that break even after only a few months of parking them.
