Could you please appraise dire . com, I have owned it for quite some time, I never really wanted to sell it, but I get offers randomly almost every week the highest offer I got was $5000.
I have never appraised it so I am curious.
What kind of website would this domain be good for?
Thanks

Welcome to NamePros,

it's a very nice domain. It's hard to valuate such a name for me, but $xx,xxx IMO.
Good luck.

It's a very nice domain. LLLL, pronouncable, and dictionary. You have a real winner here. I could see this easily in the $xx,xxx range.

As for development potential, possibly a disaster relief site or possibly charity for the less fortunate.

Dire.com is worth more than the highest offer you've got so far, highly brandable.

I don't know but I would have taken that offer

I would take the 5k offer if I were you. However, if you have a gut feeling that you can get more than hold on to it. Overall nice 4 letter.com

Do either of ya'll care to elaborate why you would sell at $5K?

I didn't know that word (the meaining) so using the Google translator give me some meanings which I don't see so good / ideal as to create a site. Then, just for beeing a 4L and pronounceable would worth more than 5k? I even think less

Well although could be an acronym. but I think 5k is ok, because who knows when and if will someone is going to need that acronym

But just my opinion

That my opinion, I have been dealing mostly with llll.coms and feel that the range is fair and 5k is more than a good offer.

Very nice LLLL.com. Hard to say how much it's really worth, but I think you can get much over $5,000 for it.

Dire is a solid English-language word. If you check the weekly DNjournal lists of sales you'll see similarly good dictionary words commonly going for $4K - 10K range. In this case I think 5K is a sober reseller price and a lowball end user price.

It's a vague word as far as usage goes, however. You have to get inventive to figure out what it can be used for, there's no apparent and clear use jumping out. This can be seen as an asset - a versatile word with many uses - or as a detriment - a vague word with no clear uses.

If you're receiving constant offers below and up to $5K I think it's mostly domainers trying to lowball you. If you need the cash, 5K isn't an insult, it's a good reseller price. If you can afford to sit it out, and you learn how to approach and negotiate with end users, I think you can get into the low xx,xxx for it, maybe $10K - 20K. However since the name has quite nebulous meanings as far as website development or business application... I think any price approaching or over 10K is extremely optimistic, and any price over 20K stratospherically optimistic and only if you have extremely motivated buyer/s.

If I owned it I'd stick a 15K price on it, but accept 7 or 8K probably, if I wanted cash now.

Welcome to Namepros. Good luck, nice name.
When and why did you buy it?

Agree with Bannen. 5K is 'fair' but I have the feeling you could get more.
Perhaps you might want to try a Greatdomain auction (more eyeballs and competition).
But set a reserve price because you never know.

I'd consider the $5k offer as a quick sale opportunity. If you need quick money, you can accept the offer.
But if you insist more, you can get $1xk offer too.

Good luck with the domain and welcome to namepros :)

Thanks for your input and warm welcome guys.
About the domain: I got it from Network Solutions on 1999 for $19 I believe that was the cost back then to register.
I was looking for an 3 letter .com but could not find any so I settle for this one, back then they were no tools to search easily available domains you pretty much had to guess one by one, so I stumble with this one.
I planed to use it for myself but never got around to do it.
DIRE has Spanish and French meaning of the word SAY, pretty vague :hehe:.
Lately I get more and more emails of people asking to sell it, I usually never respond but a couple years ago somebody was eager to buy it and kept email me, his top offer 5k.
I had this domain for 13years and I am in no hurry to sell it.. I don't think ill sell it unless I believe I get a fair retail offer.

Were you guys think will be the best place to market this domain in order to get maximum exposure and therefore the best return after all fees?
thanks in advance.

As Sdsinc mentioned, I would try sedo dot com and apply to great domain auction, where you can set up your reserve price.
Good luck :)

I'd not be surprised if sedo will not accept that domain

Nice domain, I think $15K is the low end of it's worth.

as the original registrant you have the BEST tool in accessing it's value right there.... if the BEST offer you have received in all that time is $5K then, unless YOU aggressively research and reach out to potential buyers that perhaps have not bothered to inquire regarding the domain, I am not sure you will get much more than $5K amongst resellers.

if you can find a good venue that is willing to let you put a higher reserve that you WOULD be comfortable letting it go at, and still most likely be sold to just another reseller/investor, then it can't hurt to have the exposure and that would give you a better idea what it's potential is without reaching out to THE enduser. and if it doesn't sell at your desired reserve then you can reassess your plan and either hold onto it and research further or sell to one of the likely "follow up" emails you will receive due to the exposure and non-sale.

although it is a dictionary word, as others have pointed out it doesn't have the most friendly/positive ring to it, which limits the pool of usage, since companies that do NOT want to be have their image tarnished by a "negative" sounding acronym etc might pass strictly based on that factor..... that isn't to say that some cool record/clothing/"bad boy" image-oriented company doesn't exist or won't exist later for which this would make a cool brand to build on.

Good luck! sp
