WASHINGTON – A senior Russian embassy official is threatening to use force if necessary to prevent the U.S. from deploying combat weapons in space.

Vladimir Yermakov, senior counselor at the Russian embassy in Washington, said his country is urging the U.S. through diplomatic channels against any plans for space militarization. But he told a space conference Russia would have to react, possibly with force, if the U.S. successfully put a "combat weapon" in space.

We didnt dislike you before all of this, it came after, so justifying more showing of force being because you are unfairly targeted is not true.

Going to space is not a show of force (though I can understand why you would see it that way).. it is merely prepairing "wisely" for the wars of tomorow.

Imagine it this way: the ocean has just been opened up. some people say NEVER to naval warships..the ocean is a peace only zone... and then the wrong people secretly develop it and you have no navy to fend them off.

the logic suggests a fool would leave his guard down based on "rules" set forth by an organisation (the UN) that is pathetically complacent.

Actually most of the friendly fire instances happen when the US is going through the EU controlled areas, and our trigger happy troops shoot at the first thing that moves, even when that moving thing is a vehicle displaying all proper idenification of being in the cololition.

He hasnt said it perfectly, but the basis is true. Friendly fire instances are mainly with US troops. I wont gather up the evidence and post links - I dont need to, it delays the truth and I know you already are aware of this Lee. I doubt the US censors media to the extent it doesnt report on the American on friendly attacks?

actually its to get people to think about whats at stake.. to ponder "WHY" the commie and psuedo "ex" commie nations wouldnt want us to go to space... because they cant yet.

the Last time we brought up space (Star Wars), no one peeped a word about it.. but it ended up bankrupting the USSR in their vain efforts to keep up with technology they thought we hand.

Starwars was a bluff, the tech wasn't viable..it barely is today... but this time, it's no bluff. an knowing that China has eyes on space.. it is..again..only logical to beat them to it.

I think, with whats at stake in space itself... to not be in control of it would be in error (term used losely for lack of a clear thought on the following)...

consider the resources up there.. minerals, precious metals..etc.. it is not only a military advantage, but also an industrial and economic one. To not have a presence up there..of any type..would be a clear mistake.

With Iran and North korea making nukes the US needs weapons in space. Maybe if Russia and China got off their backsides and helped the world in stopping Iran and North Korea then the US wouldnt need to do this.

From the way I know Russia (I lived there all my life until I moved here,) they're not gonna do anything. It's just a media hoax they spread. As I already mentioned in another topic, Russians don't like americans because of how good their life is and how much money it has. Vladimir Putin is just reacting to it this way so that its people are not "left out" by its government. Trust me, Russia's gonna sit in its little corner and follow US orders

Lee, what exactly is achieved by threads like these? Seems to me like it just gives foreigners more reason to hate the US. Granted that you don't care (I think you made that particularly clear), maybe folks like -db- and -RJ- won't enjoy getting spit in their cokes the next time they eat in some foreign restaurant.

You say you post it to raise awareness? Why? If at all possible, the US would probably try to get weapons into space secretly. If word gets out, the military would prefer it not discussed on every old forum.

If America ever needs to find an excuse to start a war with some small country, all Bush needs to do is appoint you as ambassador. War would probably follow in a matter of days. So for all you foreigners feeling harrassed by Lee, remember that he isn't representative of all Americans.

That said, I'm personally thankful to America for bringing peace to our generation - historical pundits are already calling it "Pax Americana". May peace last forever.

Now can we please have some peace on this thread?
