Dear all,

I am a complete newbie on domaining. I try to read and learn as much as I can ...

I am native Romanian ... and few days ago I came across on a "big" sale. I saw it on namebio. Domain the.ro was sold on Sedo for 1,085 USD. 2017-03-27. It is a non-sense for me.

Can any experienced member light my mind? Why this amount of money? Real sale? Fake sale?

Probably It was sold to a domain investor who will sell to another investor who will again sell to another one, I can't see any end user would use this domain. imo

OR maybe it can be THE as an acronym to some company in Romania.

(1) This is most likely a Domain Hack. It's when the extension is used to complete a word. It may not necessarily be used for targeting Romania as a market. Thero also means something in Buddhism, as well as in Greek mythology.

Potential candidates could also be the owners of:
thero.com
thero.xyz
thero.net
thero.us
thero.org
thero.webcam
thero.science
thero.faith

(2) It could also possibly be a domainer buying a 3 letter domain name, because of it's rarity (although I doubt it's because of this, based on the purchase price).

(3) Other reasons can include: acronyms, abbreviations, etc.

(4) It's also not impossible that it could be a no-sale for whatever reason, these things happen.

.ro is cctld for Romania (Around 600,000 .ro domains registered)

.ro is a popular ccTLD, so sales are bound to happen. $1085 is not even a big amount.
