Hello NP.

I have a domain which recieves 50+ hits a day. This is nice but I somehow can not figure out were the traffic is coming from.

Any ideas where I can find a tool or service to figure out where this traffic is coming from?

If I knew the origin of the traffic I could optimise to increase the parking revenue.

Thanks for the help.

Fabian

Why not apply for a Google Analytics invitation code?
Or set use statcounter if you need it now.

Or browse the results to view more options ;)

Is the domain parked or hosted ? Most hosting providers will provide you with stats. The geographic breakdown is not always available because the web server would have to run a reverse DNS lookup on each visiting IP address and it's resource-consuming (I assume it's your problem here).
So I would suggest downloading the raw log file (provided it's available) and run stats on your own PC. If I remember well Analog for example comes with a DNS resolver that you can let run in the background (because resolving DNS on a large file will take time).

If you are a SedoPro member you can try to park the name there for a while and you can get more detailed stats (including top countries and referers).
There are other sites I believe where you can park your names to get certified stats (and more detailed traffic information as well).

Hi
Chances are it may have been previously developed and has incoming links - you can check that with www.urltrends.com by just putting in the domain name to see if it has any.

If it does,nt show any incoming links then maybe you have got a nice little type in one

If it has, use www.archive.org/web/web.php to see what was previously developed as, While this won't show you the graphical location of your traffic this may help you to decide what keyword to use to help gets those clicks.

Maybe if you post the domain someone here can help you further ?

I have one that's getting around 500 a day and it's driving me crazy. I've been thinking of putting up a page with a tagbox and ask them all:

What the hell do you want here??????

:guilty:

host it and take a look at the referrer logs

or park at ND, use search box template where the only thing is a search box, take a look at the searches people are making and optimise accordingly

Melodyware.com

Was my own music site with affiliate links, rock song lyrics etc. I had it up for a couple of months and it didn't do much so I took it down and parked it. All of a sudden about a week later it went crazy. I thought it was bots! But I think it may be the lyrics of a new band I had posted. I don't know though for sure.

Maybe I will put up a small site and see what they are looking for...

Edit: just checked and it's settling down now...all over the map, 65 one day 120 another day...

Assuming you are not getting any clicks at all you could try the keyword "bathrooms"

Its a very looooong shot though :hehe:

2,640 uniques should be able to get you a few $$'s somehow eh.

There's a company in china who sell Spring Melody Sanitary Ware, toilets, pedestal sinks, ceramics, bidets, bathroom products, sinks, washbasins.

Maybe ??? people are searching for that ?

Wow, isn't that something, I didn't know that! I'll have to check that out.

I put a quick site up but it's still resolving to Sedo.

And very sorry to Fabian for hijacking his thread!!! :red:

Update

No problem Kerrijo! :hehe:

Thanks everyone so far for providing me with valuable advice.

The domain name is garageboard.com and receives 50 odd hits.

I know that it was a car forum before but not much more. Do anyone have a better idea then using car forum as keyword?

I have done so and so far this month received 4 clicks that is barely 6%. Not really good inmo.

It does not have that many links either so I assume they are type ins:

URL Trends:
PageRank: 1/10
Alexa Rank: 2,157,408

Incoming Google Links: 1
Incoming Yahoo Links: 397
Incoming MSN Links: 4
Incoming Alexa Links: 6
Overall Incoming Links: 408 (Overlap is possible - Estimated 397 unique links)

And unfortunately ND so far does not give me information about the keyword searches like for other domains have parked there.

To sum up: Any other suggestions for keywords and getting to know where the traffic is coming from?

All opinions and information appreciated.

Thanks,
Fabian

keyword changed

I have changed to surfboards because CTR is still shamefully low for so much traffic and someone at DNF suggested that this could work better.

Any other suggestions anyone?

Thanks.
