I voted .us but that's under the pretense your targeting the united states but if your not then I would go with the appropriate cctld....so my vote thinking your targeting usa is .us ;)

.co.uk every time if it is a generic domain, I do not know the German market that well and the American market cannot conceive of the possibility that there might be life out their past their borders, and the .com

At least with the UK extension virtually everyone in this country knows what it is so I do not have to wait years for it to gain popularity.

The problem with this poll is the question is too vague. Are we talking resale? Are we talking the exact same price.

It depends on the term. I would rather have US GEO in .US than in CO.UK or .DE

If we are talking development I would prefer .US as that is the market I would be targeting, but generally .DE or .CO.UK is going to have a higher reseller price so that needs to be factored in as well.

As long as it isn't American English keywords (e.g. verbs ending in -ize), I would go for .co.uk.

If I'm targeting US visitors only and that wouldn't change in the future I would go with .US but before even that I'll try to settle down with 2nd tier keyword in .COM or .NET first.

Let's say my main targeted keyword is "Hotels", I would try to get BestHotels.com, BestHotels.net, TheHotels.com, TheHotels.net, etc.. before I consider Hotels.us

I voted .co.uk, simply because it is a very well established (large) market and the extension has been widely accepted in that country. Dot de would work as well for the very same reason.

I'm still a bit iffy about .us simply because I believe that most Americans believe that .com is their default extension. I might not be spot on about that and I'm sure others will inform me so...lol.

If .com is taken, I settle for a different variation of the name. If none is available I make offers for the .com.

Voted none of the above. Every reason to create/register a domain is unique and can't necessarily be confined into the limited 6 options. It all depends on a the application.

When it comes to a hand registration, I only buy .com.

If I am consulting for a business who wants a website and all ext's are taken, I may push them towards .tv, .us, and .info (assuming all variations of .com are taken and aftermarket prices too high).

.tv .us and .info have all been options on the table before, but ultimately we found a new clever way to reword/rework the .com.

*Word of advice - If you're ever starting a company, buy the .com before you do anything else!
