Hey Nameproer's~

Just wondering where you see domains in the future. Specifically referring to the not so well known extensions. With the .com, .net, .info, and .org clearly ahead of the game, what of the other TLD extensions do you see making a push to claim its spot in the realm of domains. VOTE ON THE POLL AND LETS SEE THE RESULTS AS THEY UNFOLD.

PS. Dont Forget to leave your opinion in the poll.
Thanks,
Adam

And what of .CN? Huge market, growing very, very fast.

Even though .info is not listed above, will the "free" .info names that flooded the market have an impact on valuation later this year?

Nah, in the domain game, its always about Quality, not Quantity.

.us and biz imho. The former because it makes a lot of sense for a company catering primarily to the US market. The latter because I think it makes a lot of sense for small to medium international businesses who can't afford the $$$$ pricetag of keyword .com domains.

I like .name as well, specially for domain-related sites, but don't see this taking off in a real way with the average person.

.jp, .cn, .tw, .in and .eu will be the real champions as Europe and Asia are either already large markets or very rapidly growing like China and India. The potential of the .us ccTLD is indeed great, but the market can't expand much anymore. India's ccTLD is quite unexcavated still and not long since China open its registry to foreign applicants. Especially registrars like Directi have a great chance to get a large number of .in domain registrants from their current user base. In the future I very much predict the EU domain registry becoming one of the most dominant ones, as so far the interest has been huge towards pre-regs, not to mention how large the market is. I myself at least await to see what will happen with .eu. This year should be the one when it hits the stage.

Lately .info has had indeed a demise in value thanks to the campaigns which have given it a slight flavour of being a cheap TLD for "domain whoring" for as cheap as possible. The miracle of Tuvalu, the "dot TV'ing" trend isn't anymore popular, thanks to its fee structure and lacking a fashionable touch these days (IMO the rush is over).

For the upcoming years it will be crucial which registries manage to establish a viable presence alongside the dot coms, as many Charlie Browns still primarily have heard about those. That's where we need to get a better penetration. Get people more aware of other extensions and make them remember them or else they type mystupidlittlesite.com, despite you advertised mystupidlittlesite.cc. Much focus has to be put on making people remember what extension it was, or else they will carry on "dot coming" all natural type ins.

Just my few cents. :)

I believe that a lot of these Charlie Browns are turning into Simpsons. Usually, 20% of any one population is pretty savvy when it comes to any area, the Internet being not much different. Savyy Internet users don't normally "type in" addresses to find something, they use search engines.

And when they do land on your site, I'd rather they see, as the popular saying goes, forum.us as the site name as opposed to iregisteredthisforumnamebecausenootherswereavailable.com. It is pretty obvious that not everyone can afford paying an arm and leg for a .com, many of the good names held hostage for 5-6 figure ransoms and more.

Well, you should have also kept options like
"None of these"
"I dont know" etc

I vote for .tv!
.TV's fee policy will not make it to be popular as soon as others, but still an excellent extention for online rich media businesses , and I believe there will be more and more multimedia companies who are able to afford the high reg fees easily to buy their own .tv domains.

I am not much of a domain expert but I have seen unique sites that have .com, .net, and .org taken are going towards .name but its only my theory.
