Data presentation via PHP or Perl?

I want to have a simple website that allows me to login as admin and enter data which goes directly into my mysql database. I want users to be able to create an account and when they login they can a) only see data that is associated with their login id and b) the data presented back to them is in a simple format.

I know if I sit down and play around I could create this but just wanted to here some feedback. Possibly an application out there that may already do what I want. Would it work better with Perl or PHP as my frontend?

Definitely php, as the php/mysql combination is easy to work with.

ya, PHP, lol, Perl is lie 10 times more expensive. and is much more "specialized" i think, pretty sure at least.

Because less people know perl, you'll have a lot of "PHP sure" answer to your question. I know PHP and Perl. I practise both and I like both.

But since I think it's more easier to find PHP programmers nowadays, and because it's more easy for beginner to learn PHP than Perl, I recommend PHP especially if you don't know Perl.

But if you masterize Perl, you'll have more fun with Perl ;)

well, I would do this in perl because cpan has some libraries that would make this a snap, but it really does not make that much of a difference either way.

I bought "Learning Perl" (O'Reilley book) before I left on my trip. I can usually read and pick up on something very quick so i may give Perl a shot. I was actually on the way out the door to go and buy Web Database Applications with PHP and MySql. Any feedback on this book?

Sure, you'll have to use DBI/DBD the database module to connect to mySQL (or others ;)).

And then when you have a need, think to look in CPAN before to do it yourself...

If you finish Learning Perl, buy Programming Perl, and you'll become a Perl Guru ;)

Don't know Web Database Applications for PHP, because I learn PHP without books, only web resources...

10x more expensive in what sense?
Have you run real world benchmarks? Perl is pretty fast at what it does.

perl was more specialized, it used to stand for 'practcal extracion and reporting language' , its specialy was taking reems of data and making reports out of it.

Now it has become a full general purpose programming language, while php still is more featureful and orientied towards the web (5 may have changed this, I have not looked at it at all yet)

No

I will look for the module if I have a chance, it has been about two years since I did that program now, so it is not in my memory these days... somehow I has lost this thread, no notifications of reponses, oh well.

They were some routines to automatically build tables of the data retreived though, so that may help you seach for and find them.
