The opportunity presented by marijuana legalization hit me in 2008-2009. Having experience in domains I sought out what I thought would be premium. This is what I found expiring from a now defunct BasicFusion registrar (they lost their accreditation from ICANN). I waited for it to drop and caught it as a hand registered domain.
2. Markets:
Primarily a premium generic for high quality cannabis (which everyone will want when it is legal). It targets the broad scope of quality cannabis - from seeds, to concentrates, and everything else produced by the cannabis plant.
3. Research:
The results of my recent research are as follows. 1) dank-weed.com, dankweed.net, dankweed.org, and dankweed.ca are taken. FindDankWeed.com is taken.
4. End-User Value:
I was offered $2000 in 2016 and countered at $30,000. The sale did not happen. I am hearing offers for now. I will hear them and analyze the market but that is all. I'm probably going to wait until it is worth more money.
5. Reseller Value:
Possibly the $2000 offered as it was a low ball offer.
6. Traffic:
This is a PR1 domain that once outranked WeedMaps.com on Alexa using StumbleUpon's su.pr. It gets small amounts of traffic and someone once stated to me they just typed it in to find good quality weed.
7. Revenue:
I have been offered small sums of money to post content on the Pinterest-like theme I've loaded on the site. We recently suffered a hack as iPinPro was outdated/no longer supported and required that we migrate to Pinclone.
8. Age:
8 years. Archive.org (Wayback Machine) also shows history from 2001.
9. Miscellaneous:
Cannabis legalization is emerging finally. It is legal in my home state California now. There was a recent Forbes article ("Marijuana Won Tuesday's Election") that talked about New Jersey being the next state to legalize. Canada is legalizing. Constellation Brands bought some $XXXm in stock from Canopy Growth Corporation in Canada. The cannabis industry is estimated to reach $50B by 2026. There is a lot of industry growth emerging.
A lot of for-profit corporations will be emerging in California throughout the next decade. I predict offers should come in and will wait it out to hear. Since reading Morgan Linton's blog post ("Yes 2 word dot coms can bring in price tags of over 1m in 2017") I am inclined to wait it out for awhile. I'm still young after all.
