CVCV domain names are top type in the 4L domains, many top international well-known brands use CVCV domains. However, even some senior domainers do not really understand what is a qualified CVCV.







C, refers to the Consonant letter, in Chinese Pinyin is also as the consonant;

V, refers to the Vowel letter, in the Chinese Pinyin called the finals.

In different Romance languages countries, vowel and consonant rules are different, but as China’s domain investors, you must analyze CVCV from both viewpoint of English and Chinese Pinyin .

In English, vowels are: a, e, i, o, u, the rest are consonants. As for some people think “Y” is “semi-vowel” .I dont think so ,because that is too complex, but brand needs simple.



So, we can define:

C (consonant) letter: b,c,d,f ,j,h,j,k,l,m,n,p,q,r,s,t,v,w,x,y,z; total 21.

V (vowels) letter : a, e, i, o, u ,total 5.

Good CVCV example: love, rose, fabu, mipu, nike, vivo, sina, sedo ……

But if you think CVCV is C + V + C + V ,that is WRONG! CVCV is CV + CV.



The key point is that the combination of C and V can be spelled and pronounced. Just like Qa, qe, qo, xa, xe, xo, vu , these seven combinations in English or Pinyin are unable to pronounce, can not be regarded as CV.

Qi, xi and cu, qu can be spelled in Pinyin, but difficult to pronounce in English, so in the type of double Pinyin CVCV, they are meaningful but not good in English.

Such as wemu, qivo, half of Chinese Pinyin ,half of the English , not good as an international brand.

Some people may say, the word “quite” and “quantity” also use “qu” combination in English. Well, which is “qu” combination as one consonant and pronounce as [kw], need another vowel followed .

Just like in Chinese , zh ch sh , two letters tied as a consonant. So “qu” is not CV.



Until now, do you feel dizzy?

Just remember 4 points ,you can identify a qualified CVCV:

1. Only a, e, i, o, u are V(vowel) all other are C(consonant) – including the letter v.
2. Double Pinyin are qualified. CVCV
3. If not double Pinyin, must without x, q, u.
4. CVCV is CV+CV

Only can be pronounced in Chinese: 22 ,we call them CV(Chinese)

Only can be pronounced in English: 27 ,we call them CV(English)

You will find, double Pinyin type CVCV are nearly 60%, many double Pinyin are also English word, for example: like, game、name.

According to the statistics until this week, 839 CVCV.CN domain names are used by end users , 441 belong to double Pinyin , only 217 are used as double Pinyin. the remains half are just used as pronoucable brands, below are some examples

The main consideration of CVCV is easy to pronounce, not only look as double Pinyin or not. Many double Pinyin type CVCV are not as good as ordinary CVCV.

do co hi we va and other easy to pronounce CV are far more used by end users than other Pinyin type CV which are difficult to pronounce ,like lu fa fo xi.



Non-double Pinyin CVCV contain many English words, such as: love, rose, life, live, hero. Except double Pinyin and English words, those “No meaning” CVCV is often made into a brand, it is not difficult to understand ,uniqueness determines the exclusive, short and pronouncable CVCV are easy for promotion and trademark protection.
