If it ever becomes an opponent to google then im sure it will be a matter of time before someone figures out how it works out and will set the results just like anywhere else.

I agree...just like everything popular on the web...it eventually gets gamed.

Abuse is rampant.

I wonder how well it works against keyword stuffing.

Google was innovative in that it used PageRank and inbound links to find popularity.

dont like the design or domain

great, get a LLLL or short domain, but with 33 million backing why not get cool.com? or kewl.com at least or somthing completely different
plus they should have nailed the major cctlds etc also on startup if not, which they didnt

not sure if will be huge but no doubt will do well although i dont like the layout or the black, or results lol

actually one good thing is wikipedia doesnt come top all time, is actually highly irritating when wikipedia tops all time on google, wikipedia is virtually a search engine in its own right and people can go there to get exacting info on a subject if they like (and search there)rather than cluttering up the results, the lack of wikipedia is one big plus imo

Today, since I also have been finding Cuil to have less wikipedia-centric results, I used it and was able to more quickly and clearly determine possible end users for two new handregs.

Such expenses are the cost of entry to attract the best software engineering talent.

Yep -- software engineers can't get anything done without bowls of strawberries on every last table!

"Ireland-based Sunday Times columnist Sarah Carey is an old college friend of Cuil CEO Tom Costello"

From Cuil.com: "Cuil is an old Irish word for knowledge"

Sounds like his love for Ireland is the reason for the not so competive name

There is also the real possibility that Cuil will be used side by side with Google for many. It's like facebook/myspace. A lot of people use both each having it's unique function.

Also...the more I type Cuil the better I like it. I think it's a fast type on a keyboard and I have yet to misspell it. The UIL on a keyboard imho make it a good type. It doesn't pass the radio test but it does pass the keyboard one.

cuil.com is nothing more then great PR. Their results are horrible (0 result for eg. COBOL). Google is unbeaten tzar of search engines now and in the future imo.

I don't really like it's search function, but the design is nice.

Things always change. AOL buy's Time Warner, INBEV buy's Anheusur Bush.

Do you think Nike would have ever thought that a start up like Under Armor would take market share from them?

Actually if you try that again and look at the top there are tabs for pages full of COBOL information. Each top subcategory seems to open in a new tab. Not what anyone's used to but interesting.

Actually I think they've got a chance, even though so far, the results are'nt really that great when you turn up searches.

But Let me tell you guys, it'll be LONG and tough climb to knock google off. Google is not just a search engine but an entire integrated social networking system. It owns youtube, gmail etc and its continually building up its properties.

But never say it can't be done. Yahoo was the reigning champ back in 98' untill google came and knocked them off.

Its exciting to see new competitors in the search engine game. Gonna take out my popcorn heh.:)

Yeah their tabs are great and the more I use it the more I like it. I created a quick search key in my browser. I have been using it alongside Google to compare results. So far I am pleased.
