Crypto & Domains... 2 digital assets with very different attributes....

After years of domaining, I took a break and focused on crypto starting mid 2020... and it was life changing.... The many years of buying, selling, trading & commenting on DOMAIN blogs & forums ended up being all I needed to know on how to trade a new class of digital assets, crypto.

Here is a few things that domaining taught me about trading crypto:

1) Try to be early, but if NOT, there can always be profits with a rising tide.... (So you didn't hand register a domain, buying a solid one word .com for a high price still has profits on the table)
2) An open mind is mandatory... Specialty niches happen with momentum and momentum is not bias to opinions.... (Remember the (dot)info craze, Chinese digit craze, and many more)
3) When there's smoke, there's fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ.... (Just go back several years in this forum to see what came true)
4) "Blue-chip" is used with all digital assets and tends to have less risk than comparables, but come at a higher floor price.... (Dot com is like native blockchains, Ethereum & Bitcoin....gtlds are like layer 2's (L2s)... but both can be extremely profitable)
5) Influencers absolutely can "pump" or "influence" digital assets, so just be aware. (I am staying away from the domain drama on this subject, but with crypto, especially be aware)
6) Unlike traditional assets, crypto & domains both have real world use cases that remain unrealized by mainstream, which cycles this post back to #1, we are still early....

Cheers ๐Ÿป

glad it worked for u. but I always make sure to letpeople know that exactly like a casino the house always wins... meaning that a hugely greater number of people lose money than make money. thus just like casinos investing in cryptos is a bad idea and that's why every crypto investment always says... invest only the money u have no trouble parting with

I wouldn't agree that all digital assets, both domains & crypto, should be compared to a "casino".... but sure there are "casino" plays, but with both, the blue-chips would be a way to avoid "gambling" and instead invest with risk management... imo...

well I said crypto is a casino not domains.. with domains u have absolute control over prices ... can learn in time what quality name is etc.... I'm happy for u... but it simply isn't true that majority of people make money in crypto.

Oh gotcha.... Well I disagree that crypto is a casino, but I understand where you coming from... There are "casino" elements in parts of crypto, but also real world use cases that have value to improve efficiency & expand development.... Just like domains..... imo.... Cheers

Agreed. Right now a business can buy a good domain name (as @Rick Schwartz says; "your world headquarters, your brand, your location, your front door, your cash register, your information portal, your #1 sales tool"), for maybe a month's wage of their lowest paid employee.

Sometimes I feel like we've been early for years.. lol I mean there's a few namespaces and crypto joints where we were early like 10 years ago and we still "early" today but I get your point.

I think practical + excitement + usage/potential takes the gain.

At the end, it's trust. This is what lasts. Is this stuff going somewhere eventually, or nowhere quickly?

Hahaha.... yes, being early can be measured in years..... I am one to believe that it is "going somewhere eventually"..... Knowing that, I prepare accordingly, with exposure... Cheers HotKey

Crypto & Domains... 2 digital assets with very different attributes, yet both offer profound opportunities for those who understand their markets.
