I was reading the Daily Record today and there was a story about an Edinburgh flat, with an area of just 150 sq ft, being put on the market for £80,000 ($160,000)! Ive been looking at buying a flat where I live and the prices are completely unafforable :td:

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/e...x-edinburgh-flat-to-fetch-80k-86908-20339560/

there's no picture on the site but there was a picture in the paper showing how the owner couldn't outstretch his arms, with the flat being so narrow!

what are property prices like where you live?

Not too bad here...when I bought my house it cost about $200k for ~1600 sq. ft. in the nicer neighborhoods in town.

Glad I bought in where I live a few years ago... house I bought on the water (5 years ago paid 300K) now got my assessment this year at over 720k. Ridiculous.. just means more property tax :td:

But for a first time buyer it is becoming harder and harder to get established anywhere.

Don't forget the assraping you're gonna get in capital gains taxes when you finally sell it.

That's shocking. Where I live, the smallest unit get council approval is just under 50sqm. Not sure how much 150sqft is but is sounds really tiny!

That's not how it works, for a primary residence (with certain, normal and typically attainable conditions) ... here in the U.S. :gl: :imho:
