Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

Coronavirus outbreaks identified at 4 sororities at Kansas State University

Residents of those Greek houses have been told to quarantine for 14 days from the day the outbreak was declared. Alpha Delta Pi and Alpha Xi Delta have six cases each, while Chi Omega and Kappa Delta have five cases apiece, the Riley County Health Department said Friday.

More than 60 US universities and colleges in at least 36 states have reported positive cases of Covid-19, and some have returned to remote learning to try to stem the spread. More than 8,700 infections among American college students and staff were reported through Friday, as the nation approaches 6 million confirmed cases.

First U.S. novel coronavirus reinfection case identified in Nevada study

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-reinfection-idUSKBN25O2L9

"Earlier this week, University of Hong Kong researchers reported details of a 33-year-old man who had recovered in April from a severe case of COVID-19 and was diagnosed four months later with a different strain of the virus."

Mutations are going to be a B***H.

I have to wonder if the term 'reinfection' is correct to describe an infection by a different strain.

EDIT: It does appear to be correct terminology, but IMO is confusing.

What also complicates matters is hard data within countries affected. It's difficult to make specific links, but as Covid is a respiratory disease, it makes common sense that air pollution (as does smoking) contributes to lung disease and weakens the immune system - a combination of factors. (also, links within the article are interesting to follow)

From Southern Hemisphere, Hints That U.S. May Be Spared Flu On Top Of COVID-19

This year's flu season in the Southern Hemisphere was weirdly mild.

A surprisingly small number of people in the Southern Hemisphere have gotten the flu this year, probably because the public health measures put in place to fight COVID-19 have also limited the spread of influenza.

That makes public health experts hopeful that the U. S. and other northern countries might be spared the double whammy of COVID-19 and a bad flu season this winter.

Yes our Flu infections and deaths are down on previous years thanks to isolation measures in Australia. (Article from April)

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could wipe out the flu at the same time!

Yes, but Covid-19 is not a respiratory disease... it usually enters through the respiratory system, begins with some respiratory symptoms like a cough and fever, and begins affecting the lungs... but, it doesn't stops there, like the flu.
It goes to the vascular system, affecting all the body systems and organs, from the liver to the kidney, from the heart to the brain. Making blood clots all around the body, damaging all kind of organs and causing paralysis.
So... although it begins like a respiratory disease, covid-19 definitely is not just a respiratory disease, is way more dangerous than that.

Thanks for the clarification, prevention is worth a ton of cure in the case of Covid. It is difficult to isolate the y axis (variable air particulates) from other related influences such as high population density - usually associated with poorer air quality, but also impeding physical distancing.

Task force report shows dire warnings to Iowa, the state with the highest case rate this week

(CNN)A White House coronavirus task force report sent to officials in Iowa this week warns ofdire new case increases across rural and urban areas of the state and calls for a mask mandate, the closure of bars and a plan from universities as the pandemic intensifies in the Midwest.
CNN has obtained the 9-page August 30 report for the state, first reported by the Des Moines Register, from the Iowa Department of Public Health. The task force releases state-by-state reports each week to governors' offices, and has so far declined to make them publicly available.
The report says that Iowa is in the task force-defined "red zone" and warns that the state has the highest rate of cases in the US, which increased by 77.4% from the previous week.

States Report Coronavirus Cases Linked To Sturgis, S.D., Motorcycle Rally

More than two weeks after nearly half a million bikers flocked to South Dakota, the tally of coronavirus infections traced back to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has surpassed 260, an estimate that is growing steadily as more states report cases, with the first known COVID-19 death of an attendee reported in Minnesota.

At least twelve states have turned up cases linked to the 10-day event.

The greatest share of cases so far have emerged in the rally's home state, South Dakota, which has registered more than 100 cases so far.

A Minnesota man in his 60s who went to the rally was later hospitalized for COVID-19 and died earlier this week, said Kris Ehresmann head of infectious disease for the Minnesota Department of Health.

It's strange that The Rock didn't say whether had family had had symptoms and been sick -- just that they'd all tested positive.
