Yes, there are certainly some silver linings to this catastrophe. Interesting article, I hadn't heard the term "creative destruction" before.

Just saw this. We have the President of the United States just retweet this, clowning on Joe Biden for wearing a mask, which he (Trump) still refuses to do in public:

I read an article a few years ago about 3D printing and how the tech had a bulls eye on especially Chinese factory workers - the idea being that North America (& Europe?) would start getting its manufacturing back, through 3D printing causing 'creative destruction' of existing systems.

Not much of any mass 3D printing seems to have really materialized like that to this point in North America, but I'm thinking/hoping this covid thing will make that happen more.

In my area we've got too many restaurants, retail stores, recreational ......, ..... . Time to start making more things for our own use as well as for others again, using mass customization from 3D printing. And get critical things back where we have more control, like meds - sooner the better: http://www.pharmatimes.com/magazine/2018/janfeb/3d_printing_drugs_more_precise,_more_personalised

In the next 24 hours we will reach the sad milestone of 100,000 dead in the US due to covid19. As the lunatic fringe likes to say "even someone killed by a shark will be counted as a covid death". No doubt there has been some mislabeling of deaths...however, it is likely that many times that amount that died from covid19 have not been counted.

May God bless those that have died and may their loved ones and friends be comforted in their loss.

Current Covid19 death numbers as of 8:00 am EST are below, primarily from the source in the original post (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus). If your country of interest is not listed below, simply go to the link above to do a search for relevant information.

    Total: 348,337
    United States: 99,807
    United Kingdom: 36,914
    Canada: 6,545
    Mexico: 7,633
    Brazil: 23,522
    Russia: 3,807
    India: 4,187
    Japan : 830
    Indonesia: 1,418

Thousands disregarded health guidance over the weekend despite rising coronavirus cases in more than a dozen states

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/26/health/us-coronavirus-tuesday/index.html

In 10 states, the number of new cases is on the decline, while it seems to be steady in 22 states, according to the data.

But in 18 states -- including Georgia, Arkansas, California and Alabama -- the number of new cases is rising.

The 3D printing initiative from a few years ago did seem to fizzle out, but it sure has a lot of applications -- more now than a few months ago. I like the idea of bringing a lot of our production back to the States, and that would certainly relieve a lot of the supply chain problems that have been caused by Covid.

Thread about some of the after effects of coronavirus. It isn’t just “survive” or “not”. Blood clots are common.

I posted the following 2 weeks ago, but I will repost it as I think it's quite interesting. The blood clot cases on coronavirus patients, even few weeks after coronavirus recovery, are very common:

    -------------

I post this one because I think this is really interesting to know the importance of Blood thinners (anticoagulants) in COVID-19 patients.

    https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/05/200507194907.htm

Blood thinners may improve survival among hospitalized COVID-19 patients

The study found that hospitalized COVID-19 patients treated with anticoagulants had improved outcomes both in and out of the intensive care unit setting. The research also showed that the difference in bleeding events among patients treated with and without anticoagulants was not significant. The Mount Sinai researchers say their work outlines an important therapeutic pathway for COVID-19 patients.

A team of investigators evaluated records of 2,773 confirmed COVID-19-positive patients admitted to five hospitals in the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City (The Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai West, Mount Sinai Morningside, Mount Sinai Queens, and Mount Sinai Brooklyn) between March 14 and April 11, 2020.

"As a cardiologist who has been on service caring for COVID-19 patients for the last three weeks, I have observed an increased amount of blood clot cases among hospitalized patients, so it is critical to look at whether anticoagulants provide benefits for them," says co-researcher Anu Lala, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

I've gathered a # of 3D & 4D printing domain names over the last few years. I'm going to see what can be done with them especially through my forhumanity.com initiative, that I'll be launching the next while.

That's a pretty steep mortality rate for just three months.

new recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

If followed, the guidelines would lead to a far-reaching remaking of the corporate work experience. They even upend years of advice on commuting, urging people to drive to work by themselves, instead of taking mass transportation or car-pooling, to avoid potential exposure to the virus.

Yep, all these close gatherings recently (pool parties, protests) are going to give us quite a spike here in the US...no worries though, its just the flu (education system has major hurdles to clear before children can return safely this fall).

Coronavirus: South Korea closes schools again after biggest spike in weeks
