As most of us know it is against rules to try and drive traffic to your parked sites. It needs to be natural type-in traffic or from backlinks. I'm not sure
if it's a coincidence, but as I perused craigslist to try and find a car, I came upon this: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/car/348341546.html I went to the link like anyone who hopes to find a car would, and sure enough I found a parked page (active audience) It seems to me it is a covert practice, as it would be assumed the browser hoping to find that hyundai would click through in hopes to find the "pictures" that the "seller" was alluding to. Which means they would then benefit$$$

I am curious to know others opinions...Personally I think this is risky business and could result from getting banned from the parking company, and it puts domainers in a bad light.

Hmmm I put it in my browser and it works...? so if your curious do the same. Anyways Here is an excerpt:

60 K miles of Highway driving, Nice auto tranny, cold A/C, electric rear defrost, power mirrors... The driver side corner of the front bumper has a couple small scuffs and both sides have a couple small door dings which are hard to notice(see pics). ... economical...I am trying to list pictures, bu the resizing software keeps on giving me errors. I will try to upload all the interior, exterior pictures and the address on my web page: www. stpetein surers .com The pictures should load right up as soon as youtype the address - The pictures and my address should be the only thing you see - Ho pefully! If it doesn't work out, just drop me an email and Ill send them one-by-one. Thanks!

I don't see how thats driving traffic to the site.. its not hyperlinked

Am I missing something?

i think the reason its not hyperlinked is so the traffic looks like type in traffic (which it will be because people will cut and paste that link into the browser, deleting the spaces)

Just because its not hyperlinked doesnโ€™t mean that its not covert. If the seller of a car or a product isnโ€™t really selling their product or service but is making up a fictional ad for the sole purpose of getting someone to find the pictures of a car, or whatever ealse that doesnโ€™t exist, isnโ€™t that driving traffic to a parked site? OK case in point I was this person, looking for a car who wanted to see pictures of the car in question, and when I typed in the link in my browser I got a parking page. If I wasnโ€™t a domainer perhaps I might click through. Maybe some of you already do this, and are thinking yea so what? But I'm thinking itโ€™s a bit sneaky..

For those of you that aren't seeing what the OP is talking about, this is it (I missed it the first two times through)
economical...I am trying to list pictures, bu the resizing software keeps on giving me errors. I will try to upload all the interior, exterior pictures and the address on my web page: www. stpetein surers .com
Notice that the URL is "broken" and is probably NOT hotlinked intentionally so that you (the visitor) WILL have to type it in. Then if something is clicked on the parked page, the dn owner "legitimately" "earns" his click.

I have to admit looks to be a clever little scam they've come up with...

The name was registered on the 7th and the ad is from june 9th which was just listed. I don't find it hard to believe that someone is doing this, in fact it may give some people the idea that this is Ok. It's a way around not having an outside link, which is against craigslist's policies, and a way around parking companies rules so it looks like natural type-in traffic. I just find it kind of annoying because I was the innocent person who fell upon this scheme hoping to find a picture of a car that dosent really exist.

This guy probably has the exact same post in a bunch of cities, he probably does it with several email accounts and several domains. You can get traffic this way it does work. But it is a very tedious process. They do not allow duplicate posts, so you have to manually change your post a little and the title every time you post it, plus you have to use a different email. After that you have to confirm from each email individually. Then after just 24 hours they filter out of view every day. To sustain any traffic you have to do it every day in a new city. Ultimately its not worth it. Not because you will get banned, but because you dont make enough money for the time invested. Buying and reselling is much more pfofitable. I would not pursue this option unless you want to waste your time.

I doubt it's a typo just a vain attempt at concealing his domicile:

Beverly Hills

BTW I emailed this person, Michael and inquired about the aforementioned "car"..he has yet to respond.
:hehe:

Just a little update on Michael the seller of a fictitious car. Never heard back :tri: Decided to peruse CraigsList in the Bay Area and came upon the same exact ad but with a different website imbedded in the ad. No surprise there. It's annoying though.

www stpeteinsu rers ,com

I don't know if this is what you mean about parked sites but I was on Craig's list looking for a car. The ad had the link above to view pictures on her site. Well when you put that site in (it is not a legitimate url address as I have never seen one written this way but trying to change it to a correct form yields nothing) up will pop a bunch of Craig's list ads. They are car ads and all contain this link saying they have pictures posted on their websites. Don't know what is up. I can see one person having incorrectly typed the link but to find three and in all different states baffles me. Either someone has sold these people a bill of goods and sold them a site to post pictures and taken their money and run or if something else is going on. The link to your posting on this site came up when I searched for www stpeteinsu rers ,com Strange but true

I put the link www. stpetein surers .com In google and got four different car ads, some flagged for removal. All on Craig's list. Any bright ideas?

Seems like a lot of people are coming up with the same thing when they use the web site: www stpeteinsu rers ,com Lots of different Craig's list ads come up, some flagged for removal some go back to the website. The reason the different sites come up is because the ads are keyed to the words web site: www stpeteinsu rers ,com. Don't know what is going on, do you or does anybody else? I am finding that people also say the person selling the vehicles never answer inquiries on them. Is this what is meant by a parked site or is someone just playing games or gathering information as to how many people try to find web site: www stpeteinsu rers ,com

Here is just one example:
Silver exterior on black leather interior. All power, cold AC, heated seats, 3rd seat/row. Runs xcellent, always maintained by the dealer - oil changes done outside dealership because it is much, much cheaper. I had the timing belt, water pump and upgraded radiator changed for the 90K service. Right now the car has 94k miles. The paint looks great, no major dents or dings. The only body work done was on the driver side quarter panel - we had a major scrape/ding from another car. I have the actual damage pictures and the repair (see pictures 7 & 8) It has been repaired at a dealer approved body shop. Clean Carfax, non smoker, no pets. I had the car listed on ebay and it was the worst mistake I ever did - Someone tried to pay for it with a bad cashier check...Anyways, only serious inquiries please! I will NOT trade for anything and I will NOT take payments. I have 22 pictures of the inside, outside and engine (the same that were on ebay) I will post them as a slide-show on my web site: www stpeteinsu rers ,com The slides should start as soon as you type the address, thats all you should see - If all you get is my generic web page and no slides - email me and I'll send them out as a compressed folder.

This is just one ad but found 3 others on different cars in different states and they all have the link and state there are pictures to be seen of their car
