Copyright Infringemnet? What to do w/ the domain?

What do you do if your a notified of a domain possibly infringing on a copyright law?

The domain in question has the word OLYMPIC in it, so it is not being listed for sale at sedo any longer.

Its a very generic name that I believe to be very valuable, especially w/ the upcoming olympics, but I also don't want to be in violation of any laws of course.

Has this happened to you and what did you do?

Do I sell it to the olympics? Or just turn it into a site showcasing pez collections...................................................

DO NOT try to sell it to olympic committee etc. i let 5 olympic domains expire recently. its not worth the grief :imho:

they will eventually demand you hand it over. let it expire, save money and move on

Have they contacted you yet. If so, just hand it over to them, ask them where to transfer the name. If not, do not park it, or try so sell it (no one will buy it anyway due to the TM), just let it drop. AFAIK, any domain with the word Olympic in it is just asking for trouble. The Olympic Committee, or who ever handles their TM are very strict at enforcing their trade mark.

I don't think you are necessarily violating any copyright automatically. Look at Olympic Airlines/Airways for example. Sedo/Afternic just don't discriminate. They just remove/disallow any domain with the word olympic in it. As long as your domain has nothing to associate it with The Olympics or sports, I think you should be ok. I don't see anything wrong with OlympicKittens.com just as long as you don't violate the olympic copyright in your domain content. If you're parking for example, remove the keywords olympic and sports, and you should be ok. I am not a lawyer. If you are seeking legal advice. Consult a domain lawyer.
