I know that it has been said for years that content is the king of SEO, but it just aint so.

What say you on this topic?

Here is my position stated again

Here is why I know that content is not king. Judging quality is not easy for humans to do let alone software (Google.)

I have poured over many Google patent applications and I never ran across anything related to content quality. So I did a little experiment on my blog.

I had created some blog posts that were Do Follow lists. Those caused so much spam problems for myself and others that I removed the lists but not the posts over a year ago from my blog.

Those posts get spam comments almost daily which I post minus the link of course. These posts compete in searches that include over 100 results. Yet, these posts continue to rank on the first place of Google based on these lousy comments alone.

These posts continue to rank well not because of quality but due to freshness of the content even if it is spam!

Quality Content is important it just has very little to do with SEO.

100 results = not anywhere's NEAR serious competition.
1 blog = not a valid "experiment".

Content matters a whole bunch if you want to do business... It's just got nothing to do with SEO.

You're welcome to your opinions, and if you're trying to stir up controversy to keep the thread going that statement oughta do it, but I doubt you can find even ONE of the of highly-regarded experts in the industry who will agree with you.

Mesa SEO Solutions: I see that you are still saying the same thing. Ok then, maybe you are right.

Please post the URL of that blog that gets a lot of traffic, all with duplicate content. Let's see it.

Well, I started this post so it kinda makes sense that I would continue to support my position...

If you want to verify it for yourself you are welcome to visit my blog and look for Do Follow posts in the categories section.

Or you can simply do a Google search for Do Follow List. You will want to look for Tucson SEO Solutions. It is usually ranked in the top 3.

Even though links are important but I do consider CONTENT as the KING of SEO. Links may be the QUEEN.

You can have lousy content (not a good idea) and your website may still rank # 1. SEO is about proper indexing and building links.

If your keyword phrase appears in your Page Title, Page Description, and it appears in your content expressed as a phrase you will be properly indexed. It's that simple... The rest of the content can be lousy and your site may rank well.

If you think I'm wrong then please show me a reference from a Google patent application that includes quality content.

It's important but not for ranking purposes.

As Search Engines become smarter & smarter, I think they would be able to recognize garbage content to some extent. Therefore to play a long term game, I would always suggest to have a good content.

I would agree that quality does matter and that it should be a priority. It just doesn't have much impact on SEO. I encourage those who might disagree to read Google's SEO Starter Guide.

For SEO, I believe content is still king.
However, I read some where that new king of online marketing is Community. It's very easy to understand. If you own big community, you are really KING!

I like the post you put up BrainFreeze, that makes perfect sense. Obviously having good content is vital for getting repeat visitors, but having tons of back-links is what will get them into the door initially.

And you get HIGH QUALITY backlinks by having interesting content.

This thread is probably not good for your business and probably looks silly to people who actually know a little more about SEO.

I had accidently messed up my apache config a while ago. One of my domains was showing another (mostly) unrelated website to the domain. I didn't notice for a long time because I had no immediate plans developing the domain. Last week I googled the two keywords my domain consists of and it was #1 match (with fierce keyword competition, > 1M). I'm stunned.

Here is what I found that Google has to say on the subject.

โ€œOffer quality content and services

Creating compelling and useful content will likely influence your website more than any of the other
factors discussed here. Users know good content when they see it and will likely want to direct other
users to it. This could be through blog posts, social media services, email, forums, or other means.
Organic or word-of-mouth buzz is what helps build your site's reputation with both users and Google,
and it rarely comes without quality content.โ€

So as I read this excerpt from Googleโ€™s SEO Starter Guide Quality content does have an indirect SEO benefit. If you have content worthy of linking too and if people can find your site they just might want to provide you with a useful Do Follow backlink.

Wow, thatโ€™s sounds more a mentally challenged like a third cousin than the king of SEO

What say you?

Quality content matters, links market a site and quality content maintains it.
Also backlinks are part of having good content, the better quality you have means you'll receive more backlinks from other websites linking to that content.

I say the same thing that JB Lions said a few posts back. If you just "found" that statement (that guide's been available for a long time), it doesn't say anything positive about your knowledge of your own business.

Wow, this is a lively discussion. I have only recently discovered the my content needs a lot of help and I am working on that whether it is the king or queen.

Here's the problem, I never said that, this is a good example of how myths get started. As for me I am very secure with my skills. The fact that you would make such a statement shows that you have never visited my website.

If you had visited you might have discovered that I have a 100 % success rate at getting my clients onto the first page of Google for multiple keyword phrases.

You might have also discovered that I rank on the first page of Google for over 100 keyword phrases related to SEO, Internet - Website Marketing, and link building.

Here are some things that I rank # 1 for:

Local SEO Services
Local Internet Marketing Services
Quality Backlinks Building Services

As I said I am very secure in my abilities.

SEO is mainly about getting your your website properly indexed for your targeted keyword phrases. It also includes link building. I have never heard of or read a Google application that ever mentioned quality content is a ranking factor. Fresh content, however does matter and it matters a lot according to the SEO Gurus.
