Hi KyleClub,
There is nothing confusing. Let me try to explain it very easy for you:
1. A domain expires and first it goes to pre release auction only on one website around day 24-42 after expiry. This is when you should get the domain.
2. If for some reason nobody buys the domain during the first auction then the same domain drops and will be snatched by dropcatchers around day 75. The competition is a few times more during this stage.
A few thousand people and hundreds of registrars are scanning the pending delete lists daily.
Pre-release is the smarter and better way to go. 66% of all expiring dot com domains will go to pre-release auction. The remaining %34 will go directly to pending delete.
There are 1.4 million domains on auction at the moment. About 0.4 million of these are pending delete and the remaining 1 million domains are pre-release. Numbers are taken from namecatch
stats page.
Yes. I would say there are at least 1000 domainers, 200 registrars and 300 companies that scan them daily. I think there are about 40.000 active domainers in total in the World.
The dot com registry verisign is sending traffic data to all registrars for pending deletes. There are 51.600 domains that enter pending delete every day. If any of the domains would get some traffic all the people who have access to the traffic data would see that domain.
You can view and bulk search both pre-release and pending delete lists on namecatch.com.
- Is it wise to scan the pending delete lists?
- Absolutely not. You have half the chance finding a good domain and there will be 3 times more competition.
- But pending deletes are cheaper then pre-release.
- The difference is minimal.
Dynadot pre-release: from $11.75 including reg fee.
Godaddy closeouts : between $13 to $17 including reg fee.
Godaddy pre-release: from $20 including reg fee
All these pre-release domains are guaranteed to be auctioned on those websites. This is not so with pending deletes.
Godaddy alone has %35 of all coms. You can buy them at godaddy between $13 and $20. If you don't like that price then you can wait until other domainers have picked all the good domains and left the remaining waste to enter pending delete. Then you can go to snapnames and pay $59 for the same domain that you could have bought for $13 a month ago.
