I am making a website about the dangers of credit cards and I was wondering, should I go with .com or .org?

I am making it look like a large organization that wants to change the internet, so .org would fit it. I don't really care about what "sounds better". I will also end up regging both of them so I can redirect one to the other.

My question is... Do search engines look at .orgs or .coms? I see a lot of .orgs in the first 10 results often, and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it.

Thanks

I am no expert, but I have heard it echoed and believe strongly that extension does not matter when it comes to listing. I've had .us names get listed just as quickly as .com names and I've never really noticed any sort of penalty. Everyone I've ever talked to says the same thing; extension does not matter.

That being said, your logic for going with the .org is sound. I'm a fan of .org in such a situation because it lends credibility to the website. Organization just sounds more friendly.

if the .org is appropriate as your main site AND the .com is also available, then you should register both and point the .com to the .org address.

I'd recommend .com for this site, since users still instinctively type in .com, unless they can remember otherwise for a particular site. :)

Try to see if you can get both for the name. That will be the best idea. If you can't go with .com
