Hi,

In a few days a .com belonging to a company could expire. I want to reg it because it's a city.com name too.

Could I run into problems with the company ? In fact the domain is keyword.com where keyword is the city, and the real name of the company is like Keyword Company.

Thanks for your opinions on this.

Just because expires does not mean they are not renewing it :hehe:

I have been chasing many names just to see them renewed during redemption period...

If it is a city, country, animal name I would have no problem regging it.

I would not contact the company or put up a site of anything CLOSE to what they do.

In your case I would put up a City Fansite. :)

Yeah but I've got a nice feeling on this one... don't tell me how many times you also had ! Anyway what do you think it's safe for me to reg it if I manage ?

Of course, I want to build a nice city.com but just not sure about it... My point is, if it goes to drops auctions, I'd be willing to go far but have to be sure about the potential problems later.

if it`s a big city , I wish you the best but dropcatchers will go after it. Surely I`d try to reg it.

The problem is the keyword has between 3 and 6 trademarks, on these 1 is registred by the company... However the company has absolutly nothing to do with the city and its activities have nothing to do with the city.com I want to develop. But I must be prepared because IF I can get it they even won't get their emails any more I guess. I hate these TM's that spoil the domain's potential !

if its a city name and you develop a city portal, you should have absolutely no problems. Well. you still might.. but they should have no grounds to win...

Given the situation as described, I would buy the name in a heartbeat. Maybe I am reading this wrong, so I will use a hypthetical situation:

city: Seattle
company name: "Seattle Company"

Is this the type of situation? If so, I would be among the bidders for "Seattle.com" or whatever the city name is. If the company is more well known than the city then my answer might be different. (Seattle example is a big city)

Colmar.com

67 163 citizens, a little city of east France next to Germany, I was interested in the name because I come from this area.
