Hello, guys!
I want to register a domain for my own commercial project. .com that I wanted is already registered. (.net is not). If I add dashes between the words in .com (three short words), I can have it registered. It'll be a .com, but with dashes. Or should I rather choose .net with no dashes ?

That is the question.
Actually I can register both, no big deal. But what would be a better choice anyway?

Thanks !!!!

Go with the .net and forget the hypen imo.

I'd say the .net since there would be 2 hyphens in the .com.

If you are American is the .us regged?

.com is the only one registered. (And yes, I am American)

Go with the dashed dot com because it will more search engine friendly. If your looking to sell the domain then buy the dot net. If your looking to develop it into a website reg the dashed dot com.

In my opinion, either way, you should eventually get both and just foward or park one of them so that someone else could not come and steal them and make money from you.

If I had to choose though, I'd say go .net (with no dashes)

If you plan to promote the name, stick with .net.

Choose the .net without dashes. Usually, dashes are not so recommended in domain names.

there are lot of .net sites who are ranking very well on SE's. its just a matter of optimization.

Most online users don't like to type 'hyphens' on the address bar.

Agree, go for .net

Dashed Domains ONLY really work if the words in the phrase are natural with Dash...

jack-o-lantern, for instance, is the way we always see that phrase.... WITH dashes.

Cars-4-Sale, another phrase we are used to seeing WITH dashes.

EquityRefinancing, is an example of a phrase that we would NOT see with dashes. If you added the dash, it wouldn't be natural.... ie: people are not likely to type it in.

However... all is not lost. Search Engines don't see the dash so go ahead and put them in there, SEO, and go for it. :)

It's really all about what your marketing plans are and where you want the traffic coming from.

Either way, best of luck :)

Go for the .net without the dashes, two hypens in a domain won't look very good. TLDs do not help your search engine results so choosing .com or .net doesn't affect the SERPs.

Something else to consider.

Is the .com without hyphens a direct competitor for your planned commercial project? If you use the .net you may end up having some of your potential clients going to the .com
