I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to gauge how much a .net version of a name will sell for vs. the .com version. I know, it's all an estimate until someone pays the price, but here's an example.

There's a net version of a name that one week ago sold in .com for $1,000. It's a one word, dictionary, but sorta slangy term, but still pretty popular and recognizable. Non trademarked. Would this be a smart buy?

Wow cool. What an awesome index!

I mean 75% of 1,000 for a handregged .net is not bad...

Next question: If the .com sells a week ago, does this imply that there's a market for this name? I mean I assume the GoDaddy upsell would've suggested other names, but the .net only dropped yesterday, so is it possible to try and sell it to the .com owner?

Or is it better to forget about it? Thanks for the help!

so it averages 75% of the .com value or you are looking at 75% less than the .com?

The site says -75% so I understand this as 25% of a .com. So if a .com sells for $1K a similar quality .net would sell on average for 250 USD. (according to idnx)

Personally I would say a quality .net sells for 1/20th of the same keyword in .com. Or even less.
Before the new gTLDs arrived I was pricing my .net domains at 1/10th of a similar .com. Now, with the new gTLDs, the value of .net went down imo. I would say 1/20th of a .com is a fair guess of their value at the moment.

If you check the weekly domain sales you can see for yourself what .net is selling for these days ( http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm ). Biggest recent .net sale was ng.net for $25K. That same domain in .com would easily be worth high 6 figures (or even low 7 figures).

How to evaluate .net domains?
TrainingFacility.net
CaliforniaWedding.net
SpywareScanner.net
FitnessTalk.net
Is it worth anything?

It is a common fallacy I think.
Just because a .com domain has sold, doesn't mean the same keyword will ever sell again in another extension. Worse, the newly-acquired .com could now become TM if an end user bought it to create a business on it...

While some will say that the .net could be worth 1/10 or 1/100, the answer is that it might be worth nothing... if there is no buyer, there is no sale.

Yeah 75% less is what I understood, but I guess it's fair to say that if there's no buyer, it won't matter. But at the same time, it's a decent term. 12k searches/month, 1.33 CPC, 14 tlds registered. But yeah, who knows if it will sell, right?

If your enduser is from Germany you can sell even average .net for 4-figure.

For example, my .net-sale of 2014 to German buyer for 2K EUR: telegra
Passive sale.
